What is the National Park including marine areas and established at the earliest?
Cat Ba National Park, established in 1986, is the earliest national park including marine areas established in Vietnam. This national park is located on Cat Ba Island, belonging to Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City, covering more than 26,000 hectares, of which the marine area accounts for approximately 9,200 hectares. It is one of the most unique nature reserves in Vietnam, encompassing ecological, biodiversity, and natural landscape values.
Distinctive Features of Cat Ba National Park:
- Diverse Ecosystems: Cat Ba National Park boasts a rich and unique ecosystem, including:
+ Limestone mountain forests: Occupying most of the land area, this is the habitat for many rare animals and plants.
+ Mangrove forests: Located in coastal areas, playing an important role in maintaining the marine environment for various aquatic species.
+ Marine ecosystems: Including coral reefs, seagrass beds, and abundant marine life, contributing to the ecological balance of the region.
- Biodiversity: Cat Ba National Park is home to more than 3,860 species of flora and fauna, many of which are rare and recorded in the Red Books of Vietnam and the world, such as:
+ White-headed langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus): An endemic and critically endangered primate species, only found in the Cat Ba area.
+ Corals: With 193 species of corals belonging to 109 different genera, the coral ecosystem here is very diverse and is the habitat for many marine species.
+ Precious timber trees like Kim Giao, Cho Chi, Lat Hoa, and many rare medicinal plants.
- Natural Landscape and Tourism Value:
Cat Ba National Park not only holds conservation value but is also a renowned eco-tourism destination. Tourists can explore magnificent caves such as Trung Trang Cave, Quan Y Cave, admire the forest-mountain ecosystem, or go diving to discover beautiful coral reefs. It is also an ideal place for sustainable tourism activities like trekking, kayaking, or exploring the marine ecosystem.
- Research and Conservation Value:
Cat Ba National Park plays an important role in conserving forest and marine ecosystems, providing an ideal venue for scientific research on the environment, biodiversity, and the conservation of endangered species. The maintenance and development of Cat Ba National Park also contribute to environmental protection and response to climate change.
Significance:
The establishment of Cat Ba National Park reflects Vietnam's strategic vision in environmental protection and sustainable development. It is not only the green lung of the Northern region but also a symbol of harmony between nature and humans, playing an important role in protecting the unique marine island ecosystem and contributing to developing eco-tourism associated with nature conservation.
In 2004, the Cat Ba Archipelago, including Cat Ba National Park, was recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve, affirming its special value not only to Vietnam but globally.

What are the objectives of the General education program in Geography at the upper secondary level in Vietnam?
Under Section 3 of the General education program in Geography issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of the General education program in Geography at the upper secondary level are as follows:
Based on basic knowledge and educational methods that emphasize active, positive, and creative student activities, the General education program in Geography helps students:
- Form and develop geographic competence—a manifestation of scientific competence.
- Contribute along with other subjects and educational activities to developing in students the primary qualities and general capacities that have been formed in the basic education phase, particularly the love for the homeland and the country.
- Adopt appropriate attitudes towards the natural and social environment.
- Develop career orientation skills.
- Shape the character of citizenship, ready to contribute to the construction and defense of the Fatherland.
What are the required outcomes regarding the geographic learning competence of 10th-grade students in Vietnam?
Under Section 4 of the General education program in Geography issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the required outcomes regarding the geographic learning competence of 10th-grade students in Vietnam are as follows:
(1) Use of Geographic Study Tools
Search for and select information from documents appropriate to the content and research topics; use geographical images to describe geographic phenomena and processes; develop image collections (in both paper and digital formats).
- Read maps to extract necessary information and knowledge; exploit supplemental information channels (graphs, images,...) from maps, and geographical atlases; interpret cross-sections of terrain; utilize several commonly used maps in reality.
- Perform several simple calculations (calculate GDP per capita, economic growth rate,...); interpret and analyze statistical tables; create statistical tables with structures suitable for data analysis; draw several types of charts to represent dynamics, structures, scales,... of geographical subjects from given data.
- Interpret charts and provide explanations; read and understand geographical diagrams and models.
(2) Organizing Field Study
- Plan field study activities; use necessary skills to collect primary materials in the field: observe, measure, take field photographs, conduct interviews, sketch diagrams, charts,... and present the information gathered from the field.
(3) Utilizing the Internet for the Subject
- Search for, collect, select, and systematize needed geographical information from websites; evaluate and utilize information for study and practical purposes.
