Definitions

In this Circular, the following terms are understood as follows:

  1. The minimum body of knowledge for each training level in vocational education is the number of subjects, modules, or credits stipulated in the training program that learners must achieve upon completing the program, depending on the specific major and educational level.
  1. The competencies requried for graduates include knowledge, skills, attitudes, occupational responsibilities, and the ability to work individually based on applying knowledge, skills, and responsibilities to solve tasks corresponding to the level and major of training.
  1. Autonomy and responsibility are the capabilities to apply acquired knowledge and skills in organizing and performing tasks and the individual's responsibility towards the group and community.

Thus, the minimum body of knowledge for each training level in vocational education is the number of subjects, modules, or credits stipulated in the training program that learners must achieve upon completing the program, depending on the specific major and educational level.

Under Article 4 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BLDTBXH, the minimum body of knowledge for intermediate and college levels is specified as follows:

Minimum body of knowledge for intermediate and college levels

1. Intermediate level

a) The minimum body of knowledge for the intermediate level is 35 credits for those with a high school diploma, 50 credits for those with a lower secondary diploma, and the training duration ranges from 1 to 2 academic years depending on each training major.

b) The body of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to each training major must ensure the ratio: theory comprises 25% - 45%; practice 55% - 75%.

2. College level

a) The minimum body of knowledge for the college level is 60 credits and the period of study ranges from 02 to 03 academic years depending on each training major.

b) The body of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to each training major must ensure the ratio: theory comprises 30% - 50%; practice 50% - 70%.

Thus, the minimum body of knowledge for the intermediate level is 35 credits for those with a high school diploma, 50 credits for those with a lower secondary diploma, and the training duration ranges from 1 to 2 academic years depending on each training major.

Among these, the body of theoretical knowledge and practical skills according to each training major must ensure the ratio: theory comprises 25% - 45%; practice 55% - 75%.

What are the competency requirements for graduates of the vocational intermediate level in Vietnam?

Under Clause 1, Article 5 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BLDTBXH, the competency requirements for graduates of the vocational intermediate level in Vietnam are:

Graduates must have the capability to perform some complex tasks of the major; have the ability to apply technology to work, and can work independently or in a team:

* Knowledge:

- Having broad practical and theoretical knowledge within the scope of the major of training;

- Having a basic knowledge of politics, culture, society, and law that meets the professional occupational responsibilities and social activities in the field of expertise;

- Having knowledge about information technology that meets work requirements.

* Skills:

- Having cognitive skills, professional skills to perform tasks, and solve problems by selecting and applying basic methods, tools, documents, and information;

- Having skills in using specialized terms of the major of training to communicate effectively at the workplace; debating and using alternative solutions; assessing job quality and performance results of team members;

- Having foreign language competency level 1/6 according to the Vietnamese Foreign Language Competency Framework.

* Autonomy and Responsibility:

- Working independently in changing work conditions, taking personal responsibility and responsibility partly for the group;

- Guiding and supervising others in performing predetermined tasks;

- Evaluating group activities and performance results.
