What are the characteristics of the General Education Program for Informatics?
Based on Section 1 of the General Education Program for Informatics issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the characteristics of the General Education Program for Informatics are as follows:
Informatics education plays a key role in preparing students with the ability to search for, receive, expand knowledge, and create in the era of the fourth industrial revolution and globalization. Informatics significantly affects human lifestyles, ways of thinking, and actions, serving as an effective tool to turn learning into lifelong self-learning.
The Informatics subject helps students adapt and integrate into modern society, building and developing their computing skills to study, work, and improve their quality of life, contributing to the nation-building and defense.
The content of the Informatics subject develops three intertwined strands of knowledge: Digital Literacy (DL), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Computer Science (CS), and is divided into two phases:
- Basic education phase:
The Informatics subject helps students form and develop the ability to use digital tools, familiarize themselves with and use the Internet; initially form and develop problem-solving skills with the support of computers and computer systems; understand and follow basic principles in exchanging and sharing information.
At the primary level, students primarily learn to use simple software for study and to use computing devices following health-preserving principles, while initially forming problem-solving thinking with the support of computers.
At the lower secondary level, students learn to use and exploit common software to create digital products for study and life; practice discovering and solving problems creatively with the support of digital technology tools and automated systems; learn to organize, store, manage, retrieve, and search for digital data, evaluate and select information.
- Career orientation education phase:
The Informatics subject is deeply differentiated. Depending on their interests and future career plans, students choose one of the two orientations: Applied Informatics and Computer Science.
The two orientations share some sub-topics and each has its own specific sub-topics.
The Applied Informatics orientation meets the need to use computers as a tool of digital technology in life, study, and work, fostering adaptation and service development capabilities in the digital society.
The Computer Science orientation meets the purpose of initially exploring the principles of computer systems operation, developing computational thinking, curiosity about information systems, and developing applications on computer systems.
In addition to core educational content, students can select some elective study topics based on their interests, needs, and career orientations.
The elective topics in the Applied Informatics orientation aim to enhance practical application, helping students become proficient in using essential software, creating practical digital products for study and life.
The elective topics in the Computer Science orientation introduce programming for educational robots, algorithm design techniques, some data structures, and some principles of network design.
