Latest Content and Forms of Reward for University Students in Vietnam
What are latest content and forms of reward of university students in Vietnam?
Based on Article 7 of the Regulation on student affairs for full-time undergraduate programs issued together with Circular 10/2016/TT-BGDDT, the contents and forms of rewards for university students are regulated as follows:
(1). Regular and prompt rewards for individual students and student groups who achieve commendable accomplishments to recognize and reward them. Specifically:
- Winning prizes in academic Olympiads, scientific research competitions, technical innovation contests, academic, cultural, art, and sports competitions;
- Effective contributions in the works of the Communist Party, Youth Union, Student Association, in voluntary youth activities, maintaining security and order, class activities, faculty activities, dormitory activities, social activities, culture, arts, sports;
- Achievements in implementing the all-people movement to protect national security, ensuring school security and order, crime prevention, social evils, bravery in saving people in distress, combating negativity and corruption;
- Other special achievements.
The contents, forms, and levels of regular rewards are prescribed by the head of the higher education institution.
(2). Comprehensive and periodic rewards for individuals and student groups are conducted at the end of the academic year or course. Specifically:
- For individuals:
+ Individual titles include three types: Fair, Good, Excellent.
+ Classification standards:
+ Achieving the Fair Student title: academic and conduct ratings from fair or above;
+ Achieving the Good Student title: academic rating from good or above and conduct rating from good or above;
+ Achieving the Excellent Student title: academic results of 3.6 (on a 4-point scale) or 9.0 (on a 10-point scale) or above and an excellent conduct rating.
+ Individual titles are recorded in the student management file.
+ Rewards are not considered for students who have been disciplined or have end-of-course grades below average during that academic year.
- For student groups:
+ Student group titles include two types: Advanced Student Class and Excellent Student Class.
+ The head of the higher education institution specifically prescribes the standards for the title of Advanced Student Class and Excellent Student Class.

What are the procedures for considering rewards for students and student groups in Vietnam?
Based on Article 8 of the Regulation issued together with Circular 10/2016/TT-BGDDT, at the beginning of the academic year, the higher education institution organizes the registration of individual and group student titles.
Procedures for considering rewards:
Step (1) Based on the achievements in learning and conduct of students, student groups make a list along with individual and group achievements, certified by the class monitor, and suggest the faculty or the unit in charge of student affairs for consideration;
Step (2) The faculty or the unit in charge of student affairs organizes meetings, reviews and suggests the Student Rewards and Discipline Council of the higher education institution for approval;
Step (3) Based on the suggestions of the faculty or the unit in charge of student affairs, the Student Rewards and Discipline Council of the higher education institution organizes reviews and proposes the head of the higher education institution to recognize titles for individuals and student groups.
What is the organizational structure of the Student Rewards and Discipline Council in Vietnam?
Based on Article 12 of the Regulation issued together with Circular 10/2016/TT-BGDDT, the provisions are as follows:
Organizational structure and duties of the Student Rewards and Discipline Council
1. Organizational structure of the Student Rewards and Discipline Council:
a) Chairman of the Council: The head or deputy head of the higher education institution.
b) Permanent Council member: The head of the political - student affairs department.
c) Council members: Representatives of faculties, departments, and related units; Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vietnam Student Association of the higher education institution.
The council may invite student class representatives, class monitors, academic advisors. These members may provide opinions, suggest reward or discipline levels but do not have voting rights.
2. The head of the higher education institution issues a decision to establish and specify the functions, tasks, organization, and activities of the Student Rewards and Discipline Council.
The organizational structure of the Student Rewards and Discipline Council includes: Chairman of the Council; Permanent Council member; Council members.
