Probation Policies
Persons recruited into public employee positions must undergo probation policies to get familiar with the working environment and practice the tasks of the recruited job position.
The probationary period is specified as follows:
a) 12 months for positions requiring university-level training. For the position of a doctor, it is 9 months;
b) 9 months for positions requiring college-level training;
c) 6 months for positions requiring intermediate-level training.
d) Maternity leave under social insurance benefits, medical leave from 14 days or more, unpaid leave, and suspension due to legal reasons are not counted in the probationary period.
In case the probationer takes leave due to illness or other legitimate reasons for less than 14 days and this is agreed upon by the head of the public service provider, this period will be counted in the probationary period.

- Annual leave times for teachers include: summer vacation, Lunar New Year holidays, term breaks, and other holidays. Specifically:
a) The annual summer vacation for teachers is 2 months (including the annual leave according to the Labor Code), during which they receive full salary and allowances (if any);
b) Lunar New Year holidays and term breaks are according to regulations by the Minister of Education and Training;
c) Other holidays as stipulated by the Labor Code.
Based on the school year plan, scale, characteristics, and specific conditions of each school, the principal shall arrange the annual leave for teachers reasonably and appropriately.

During the probationary period, what is the salary of lower secondary school teachers in Vietnam?
Based on Article 23 of Decree 115/2020/ND-CP, amended and supplemented by clause 13, Article 1 of Decree 85/2023/ND-CP, the salary of lower secondary school teachers is as follows:
- During the probationary period, the probationer is entitled to 85% of the first salary grade of the recruited professional title.
In case the probationer has a diploma at a higher training level than required for the recruited job position, each higher training level is granted an additional salary grade, and the probationer is entitled to 85% of the salary coefficient of the designated grade. Allowances are granted according to legal provisions.
- The probationer is entitled to 100% of the salary and allowances of the corresponding professional title based on the training level specified in clause 1, Article 23 of Decree 115/2020/ND-CP, amended and supplemented by clause 13, Article 1 Decree 85/2023/ND-CP in the following cases:
+ Working in areas with exceptionally difficult socio-economic conditions;
+ Working in hazardous or dangerous sectors or industries;
+ Completing military service; serving in the public security forces; being a military officer, a police officer, or a professional soldier, being discharged and redeployed, a cipher worker transitioning to another sector, a reserve officer training graduate, a graduate of the district military command chairman training program in the local military sector promoted to reserve officer rank who has registered for the reserve officer rank, a youth volunteer officer, an intellectual youth volunteer participating in rural and mountainous development for 24 months or more, and having completed their task.
* The probationary period is not counted towards the time for salary grade promotion.
The probationary training guide is entitled to a responsibility allowance coefficient of 0.3 statutory pay rate during the probationary guidance period.
During the probationary period, both the probationary training guide and the probationer are entitled to bonuses and other benefits (if any) according to state regulations and the rules of the public service provider.
