Thus, an individual without a bachelor's degree in primary education can still become an primary school teacher if they hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and possess a certificate in pedagogical training for primary education.

What are the duties of an primary school teacher in Vietnam?

According to Article 27 of the Regulations on Primary Schools issued with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the duties of primary school teachers include:

- Implementing the primary education program and the school's educational plan. Independently carrying out the educational plan and being responsible for its execution; independently handling the execution of professional tasks (content, teaching methods, assessment of students) and the quality and effectiveness of the education for each student under their care, ensuring compliance with the education program, and adapting to the students' needs and school conditions.

- Participating in building the educational plan for the professional group and the school; regularly updating directives from the education sector; preparing, organizing teaching activities, and assessing students according to regulations; engaging in other professional activities.

- Establishing friendly and democratic relationships among teachers, students, parents, and the community, encouraging students to be proactive, creative, confident, and self-reliant in their studies and development.

- Upholding the integrity, honor, and reputation of the teaching profession; behaving culturally, fostering solidarity, and assisting colleagues; setting an example for students; loving, treating students fairly, and respecting them; protecting students' legal rights and interests.

- Conducting self-assessment according to professional standards for teachers; continuous self-learning and professional development; engaging in regular professional development activities for teachers; exchanging and sharing expertise with colleagues within and outside the school through professional meetings and training programs.

- Applying information technology in teaching, learning, and professional activities; being creative and flexible in making teaching aids.

- Participating in the selection of textbooks according to regulations; recommending the school provide relevant reference publications and teaching equipment to support teaching.

- Participating in educational quality assessment.

- Taking part in compulsory education, universal education, and literacy programs at the local level.

- Coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, students' families, the community, and relevant social organizations to fulfill educational duties.

- Managing and organizing the educational plan at the assigned class when appointed by the principal.

- Performing other duties according to the law and the principal’s assignments.

* Teachers serving as class advisors additionally have the following duties:

- Actively acquiring information about each student in the class they are assigned to advise; crafting educational activities for the class that clearly state the objectives, content, and methods, ensuring feasibility and alignment with the students' characteristics, and the actual conditions to promote the progress of the whole class and each student.

- Running the planned educational activities approved by the principal.

- Coordinating closely with students' parents or guardians, teachers, Pioneer Organization managers, and relevant social organizations to organize educational activities, support, and supervise the studies and development of students in their class; summing up evaluations of students at the end of the first term and the end of the school year; guiding students in nominating and recommending awards; listing students recommended for retention; completing students' report cards.

- Reporting periodically or unexpectedly on the class's situation to the principal.

* Teachers serving as the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization advisors are responsible to the principal for developing and executing the plan of activities for the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization and Ho Chi Minh Children's Star Organization, contributing to achieving comprehensive educational goals.

What are regulations on the conduct and attire of primary school teachers in Vietnam?

According to Article 31 of the Regulations on Primary Schools issued with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the conduct and attire of primary school teachers follow the regulations of the education sector and the law, with attention to:

- Not distorting educational content or teaching incorrect knowledge.

- Not cheating in assessments or deliberately misgrading students’ results.

- Not forcing students to take extra classes for material gains.

- Not skipping or reducing educational hours or content arbitrarily.

- Not insulting the dignity or physical integrity of others; and not smoking, drinking alcohol, or causing public disturbances.
