Pursuant to Clause 7, Article 24 of the Regulation on the national excellent student selection exam, issued with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, regulations on the responsibility of candidates are as follows:

- The exam paper must be written with a single type of pen and ink; red ink or pencil is not allowed (except for drawing circles with a compass); no marking or making special signs on the exam paper; incorrect parts must be crossed out and must not be erased or corrected in any way.
- For the Informatics subject, candidates must save their work on the computer's hard drive; maintain the seal on all sealed parts of the computer until the end of the exam. In case of a local/internal network-connected computer exam, candidates must follow the Exam Organization Guidelines.
- When the end-of-exam signal is given:
a) For the written exam session: All candidates must stop writing immediately to submit their exam papers; clearly state the number of submitted paper sheets and sign to confirm on the Exam Paper Receipt Form (even if they cannot complete the paper).

Thus, candidates in the national excellent student selection exam are not allowed to write with pencil or erase the exam paper. Except for drawing circles with a compass, any incorrect parts must be crossed out.

Pursuant to Article 23 of the Regulation on the national excellent student selection exam, issued with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, regulations on materials and items allowed in the exam room are as follows:
Regulations on materials and items allowed in the exam room
1. Candidates are allowed to bring the following materials and items into the exam room:
a) Pens, rulers, black pencils, erasers, set squares, graphing rulers, drawing tools;
b) Non-programmable calculators and without storage cards; for the Math subject, candidates are not allowed to bring calculators into the exam room.
- Bringing materials and items into the exam room for foreign language subjects shall be carried out according to the Exam Organization Guidelines.
- Bringing materials and items into the exam room for the Olympic team selection exam: Implement according to the Exam Organization Guidelines, ensuring they are appropriate for the specifics of each exam subject, aligning with international and regional Olympic exam organization.
Thus, candidates in the national excellent student selection exam are allowed to bring pencils into the exam room. Moreover, they are also allowed to bring the following items into the exam room:
- Pens, rulers, erasers, set squares, graphing rulers, drawing tools;
- Non-programmable calculators without storage cards; for the Math subject, candidates are not allowed to bring calculators into the exam room.
When will the exam results of national excellent student selection candidates in Vietnam be canceled and sent to competent authorities?
Pursuant to Clause 6, Clause 7, Article 42 of the Regulation on the national excellent student selection exam, issued with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, regulations on handling candidates violating the exam regulations are as follows:
Handling candidates violating the exam regulations
All violations of the exam regulations must be documented, disciplined, and reported to the candidates.

- Cancel the exam results and file a report to competent authorities for review and action according to the law for candidates violating any of the following errors:
a) Having someone else take the exam on their behalf or taking the exam on someone else's behalf in any form;
b) Committing acts of disrupting or sabotaging the exam; assaulting exam organizers or other candidates.
- For violations with criminal implications, the educational management agencies must file a report to competent authorities for review and action according to the law; for other violations, depending on the nature and severity, disciplinary action will be taken as specified in this Article.
Thus, candidates in the national excellent student selection exam will have their exam results canceled and files sent to competent authorities if they violate any of the following:
- Having someone else take the exam on their behalf or taking the exam on someone else's behalf in any form;
- Committing acts of disrupting or sabotaging the exam; assaulting exam organizers or other candidates.
