Under Clause 3, Article 10 of the Regulation on the Assessment of Training Results for Learners of the Full-time Undergraduate Programs issued with Circular 16/2015/TT-BGDDT, the classification for assessment is regulated as follows:
Classification for assssment
1. During the period in which the learner is disciplined with a reprimand, the assssment of training results shall not exceed a good level.
2. During the period in which the learner is disciplined with a warning, the assssment of training results shall not exceed an average level.
3. Learners under academic suspension are not assessd for training during the suspension period.
4. Learners disciplined with expulsion are not assessd for training results.
5. Learners who complete their studies and graduate later than scheduled for their course shall continue to have their training results assessd during the time they complete supplementary studies and graduation, depending on the reasons for the delay to deperiodine the assssment level during the supplementary period.
6. Learners with disabilities, orphans of both parents or one parent, and those under particularly difficult family circumstances verified by local authorities, who are unable to participate in or meet the general training requirements, shall be given priority, encouragement, and additional points in evaluating training results based on their efforts and progress according to the specific circumstances.
7. Learners who temporarily suspend their studies and have their training results preserved shall have their training results assessd when they resume their studies in accordance with regulations.

3. Coordinate comprehensively and closely the relevant departments and units within the institution involved in the assssment of training results of learners.

Under Article 9 of the Regulation on Student Affairs in the Full-time Undergraduate Programs issued with Circular 10/2016/TT-BGDDT, the forms of discipline and the details of violation are stipulated as follows:

1. Violating students may, depending on the nature, extent and consequence of their violation, receive warnings, reprimands or may be subject to one of the following disciplinary actions:

c) A disciplinary action represented in the form of fixed-period academic suspension shall be imposed on students who breach rules and regulations or commit serious violations against regulations on student's prohibited acts during the warning period; those who contravene laws and are subject to a suspended sentence. As the case may be, Heads of higher education establishments may consult training rules to make decisions on the suspension period, i.e. the period of one semester, one academic year or the period the same as the suspended sentence period.
d) A disciplinary action represented in the form of forced expulsion shall be imposed on students who continue to breach rules during the fixed-period suspension period, or commit violations for the first time which have extremely serious nature or level and cause adverse effects on their higher education establishments and society; those who contravene laws and serve jail sentences.
2. A disciplinary action which is at least a warning must be recorded into student administration documentation and informed to student's families. Where students are subject to fixed-period suspension or expulsion, higher education establishments must inform local authorities and student's families for their coordination in supervision and education of these students.

Thus, the types of temporary suspensions for undergraduate students are:
- Suspension for one semester,
- Suspension for one academic year,
- Suspension for the duration of a suspended sentence.
Note: A disciplinary action which is at least a warning must be recorded into student administration documentation and informed to student's families.
