According to Article 34 of the National Excellent Student Examination Regulations issued with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT:
Issuance of Certificates
1. Certificates in national excellent student selection exams
a) Certificates for students winning prizes in the National Excellent Student Exam for upper secondary schools are issued to candidates who win prizes in the exam;
b) Certificates for students participating in the National Excellent Student Exam for upper secondary schools are issued to candidates who participate in the exam but do not win prizes;
c) Certificates for students participating in the selection exam for national teams to compete in international and regional Olympics are issued to those candidates.
2. Based on the exam results, the Director of the Quality Management Department issues certificates to the candidates. Certificates are issued only once.
3. The Director of the Quality Management Department has the authority to revoke and cancel issued certificates if it is found that the person who was issued the certificate violated the exam regulations during the exam, or if the award ranking and certificate issuance was not conducted conformably.
Candidates who participate in the national excellent student selection exam but do not win a prize will be issued a certificate, which is the Certificate of Participation for the National Upper Secondary School Excellent Student Exam.

Who can participate in the national excellent student selection exam in vietnam?
Based on Article 4 of the National Excellent Student Examination Regulations issued with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT:
Participants
1. For the national excellent student selection exam:
a) Students currently studying in upper secondary schools, with conduct (or behavior) and academic performance (or academic competence) rated at least as "good" based on results from the semester (or school year) immediately preceding the exam, and selected into the team of the exam unit;
b) Each candidate is only allowed to take one subject exam per academic year.
2. For the Olympic team selection exam:
upper secondary school students and one of the following:
a) Selected by the Ministry of Education and Training from among students who have won prizes in the national excellent student selection exam in the same academic year, based on descending order of exam scores, ensuring that the number of selected students for each subject does not exceed eight (08) times the number of students needed in the national team for the international Olympic exam for that subject;
b) Did not participate in the national excellent student selection exam in the same academic year but was a member of the national team for regional Olympiads; a member of the national team for international Olympiads in the previous academic year.*
Thus, the participants in the national excellent student selection exam include students who meet the following conditions:
- Students currently studying in upper secondary schools.
- With conduct (or behavior) and academic performance (or academic competence) rated at least as "good" based on results from the semester (or school year) immediately preceding the exam.
- Selected into the team of the exam unit.
What shall candidates participating in the national excellent student selection exam in Vietnam keep in mind?
According to Article 24 of the National Excellent Student Examination Regulations issued with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, candidates participating in the national excellent student selection exam should keep in mind their responsibilities during the exam, which include:
- Being present at the exam location on the specified day and time. Candidates arriving late after the start time of the exam will not be allowed to participate.
- Presenting the Exam Card (for the national excellent student selection exam) or Citizen ID card (for the Olympic team selection exam) before entering the exam room.
- Sitting in the correct seat according to the designated seat number in the exam room; signing the attendance list for each exam session.
- Only bringing into the exam room the materials and items specified in Article 23 of the National Excellent Student Examination Regulations issued with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT.
Not being allowed to bring into the exam room: carbon paper, correction pens, alcoholic beverages; weapons and explosive, flammable substances; materials, transmission devices, or information storage devices that can be used to cheat during the exam and grading process.
- When receiving the exam papers, checking the number of pages, and writing the candidate number on the exam papers. If the exam papers are found missing pages, torn, damaged, blurred, or smudged, it must be reported to the invigilator in the exam room within the first 10 minutes from the start time.
- Maintaining order in the exam room; not allowed to discuss, copy, or exchange exam answers; if needing to speak, they must raise their hand for permission and can only speak when allowed by the invigilator; not allowed to leave the exam room during the exam period.
In necessary cases, candidates are only allowed to leave the exam room with the invigilator's permission and must be supervised by an invigilator outside the exam room; candidates needing to leave the exam room and exam area in case of emergency must be supervised by the police until the exam session ends and decided by the Chief Examiner. Report any fraudulent actions detected during the exam to the responsible person.
- Exam papers must be written with one type of pen and ink; not allowed to write with red ink, pencil (except for drawing circles with a compass); not allowed to mark or make any special symbols on the exam paper; incorrect answers must be crossed out and not erased or corrected in any other way.
- For Informatics exam, candidates must work and record their answers on the computer's hard drive; must keep all sealed positions on the computer intact until the exam ends. If the exam is conducted on a computer connected to a local/internal network, candidates must follow the organization guidelines.
- When the signal to end the exam is given:
+ For written exams: All candidates must stop writing immediately to submit their exam papers; clearly state the number of submitted sheets and sign the Receipt of Exam Papers (even if no answers were written);
+ For Informatics exams: All candidates must turn off the computer screen immediately. When allowed by the invigilator, candidates can turn on the computer screen and unseal the CD drive to record their answers onto the CD; candidates must witness the invigilator printing their work from the CD onto paper; candidates must sign the CD and printed exam paper.
If the exam is conducted on a computer connected to a local/internal network, candidates follow the organization guidelines.
+ For speaking exams in foreign languages in the national excellent student selection exam and practical exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology in the Olympic team selection exam: Candidates follow the organization guidelines.
- After the exam ends, candidates are only allowed to leave the exam room when permitted by the invigilator.
- Candidates are responsible for keeping their exam papers safe from the moment they receive them until the end of the exam duration.
