The illustrative test papers for the admission exam into grade 10 high schools in Hanoi City according to the 2018 General Education Program are as follows:
For essay subjects:
- Vietnamese Literature:
+ Exam duration: 120 minutes.
+ The exam consists of 02 parts (Reading Comprehension and Writing).
- Mathematics:
+ Exam duration: 120 minutes.
+ The exam consists of 05 questions.
For multiple-choice subjects:
Notes for candidates:
- Part I: Includes multiple-choice questions with 04 options, choose 01 correct answer.
- Part II: Includes True/False multiple-choice questions. Each question has 04 statements. For each statement a), b), c), d) in each question, the candidate chooses true or false.
- Part III: Includes short answer multiple-choice questions. Candidates fill in the corresponding boxes with their answers.
Scoring for the admission exam into grade 10 high schools in Hanoi City according to the 2018 General Education Program is as follows:
1. For essay exams
Vietnamese Literature
- Reading Comprehension: 4.0 points;
- Writing: 6.0 points;
- Total maximum score: 10 points.
Mathematics:
- Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning: 3.0 points;
- Mathematical Problem Solving: 4.5 points;
- Mathematical Modeling: 2.5 points;
- Total maximum score: 10 points.
2. For multiple-choice exams
- Multiple-choice format (Part I): Each correct answer gets 0.25 points.
- True/False multiple-choice format (Part II):
- The maximum score for 01 question is 1.0 points, including:
+ Correctly choosing 01 statement in 01 question gets 0.1 points;
+ Correctly choosing 02 statements in 01 question gets 0.25 points;
+ Correctly choosing 03 statements in 01 question gets 0.5 points;
+ Correctly choosing 04 statements in 01 question gets 1.0 points.

Subjects and Testing Methods for Grade 10 Admission in Vietnam
According to Article 5 of the Regulations issued with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT, the admission subjects are those who have graduated from middle school under the general education program or continuing education program, and are 15 years old, except in cases of advanced class progression in the previous level or students entering higher grades at an older age than the prescribed age.
High school admissions are organized in one of the following three ways:
- Admission based on the results of academic performance and training during the 4 school years in middle school of the admission subjects; if repeating any class, take the results of the repeated class year.
- Testing;
- Combination of testing and academic performance review.
Who is eligible for direct admission to grade 10 high schools in Vietnam?
According to Clause 1 Article 7 of the Regulations issued with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT (amended by Clause 3 Article 1 of Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT, and Article 2 of Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT), direct admission to grade 10 high schools applies to:
- Students from ethnic minority boarding schools;
- Students belonging to very small ethnic minorities;
- Students with disabilities;
- Students who win national and international awards in culture, arts, sports; National-level Science and Technology Competitions for middle and high school students.
What are the documents required for grade 10 admission in Vietnam?
According to Article 6 of the Regulations on middle and high school admissions issued with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT (amended by Article 2 of Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT), the documents required for grade 10 admission include:
- A valid copy of the birth certificate.
- Middle school graduation certificate or temporary middle school graduation certificate or a copy of the middle school graduation certificate.
- Middle school academic transcript.
- Priority policy confirmation letter issued by competent authority (if any).
- Confirmation letter issued by the people's committee of the commune, ward, township (for students who have graduated from middle school in previous years), stating not currently serving a prison sentence; community supervision or violating the law.
