According to Announcement 2988/TB-SGDDT in 2024 DOWNLOAD regarding the format structure of the Grade 10 entrance exam for high schools in Hanoi according to the 2018 General Education Program, the English exam structure for Grade 10 entrance is as follows:
*Note:
- Part I: Consists of multiple-choice questions with 4 options, choosing 1 correct answer.
- Part II: Consists of True/False questions. Each question has 4 points. In each point a), b), c), d) of each question, the student chooses true or false.
- Part III: Consists of short-answer multiple-choice questions. Students fill in the corresponding boxes with their answers.
**Scoring method for multiple-choice exams, including English, is as follows:
* Multiple-choice
- Multi-choice question format (Part I): Each correct answer earns 0.25 points.
- True/False multiple-choice format (Part II):
Maximum score for 1 question is 1.0 point, in which:
+ A student choosing only 1 correct point in 1 question earns 0.1 point;
+ A student choosing only 2 correct points in 1 question earns 0.25 points;
+ A student choosing only 3 correct points in 1 question earns 0.5 points;
+ A student choosing all 4 correct points in 1 question earns 1.0 point.
- Short-answer multiple-choice format (Part III): Each correct answer earns 0.25 points.
- Maximum total score for the entire test: 10 points.

Regulations on Grade 10 Entrance Candidates in Vietnam
According to Article 5 of the Regulation on Secondary School and High School Enrollment issued with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT, the regulations on Grade 10 entrance candidates are as follows:
Candidates are those who have graduated from lower secondary education according to the General Education Program or the Continuing Education Program at the age of 15, except for cases of accelerated learning or entering at an older age than the prescribed one.
High school enrollment is organized by one of the following three methods:
- Selection: based on the assessment of conduct and academic performance over 4 years of lower secondary school of the candidate, if any grade is repeated, the result of the repeated year is taken;
- Entrance exam;
- Combination of entrance exam and selection.

On August 29, 2024, the Department of Education and Training announced the Format Structure of the Grade 10 Entrance Exam for Hanoi High Schools according to the 2018 General Education Program. (Announcement 2988/TB-SGDDT) DOWNLOAD
In which, the Department of Education and Training requests the heads of Education and Training offices in districts, town-level districts to direct lower secondary schools in their areas to implement the following:
[1] Inform all staff, teachers, and students of the school about the Format Structure of the Grade 10 entrance exam for Hanoi high schools according to the 2018 General Education Program.
[2] Direct the relevant subject groups to research and apply the appropriate Format Structure for each subject, noting the types of objective multiple-choice formats to familiarize Grade 9 students; strengthen the types of multiple-choice formats including: Multi-choice with 4 options for 1 correct answer; True/False multiple-choice (each question has 4 points, each point choosing true or false); short-answer multiple-choice.
[3] Strengthen the development of question banks, and exam matrices according to the required outcomes of the subject program; prepare Grade 9 students to become familiar with the orientation of the Grade 10 entrance exam according to the 2018 General Education Program.
Encourage schools to build a Digital Library of test papers and surveys to share with educational institutions in the area for mutual exchange, learning, and effective implementation of testing, assessment, and survey methods.
[4] Research and implement the use of text in test papers and surveys to ensure conformity.
For the subject Literature, avoid using texts or excerpts that have been studied in textbooks to use as material for testing reading comprehension and writing skills in periodic tests to overcome the situation where students only memorize lessons or copy available content.
