How to calculate the salary of a grade 2 preschool teacher in Vietnam?
According to Article 8 Circular 01/2021/TT-BGDDT, the current salary classification for public preschool teachers, the following applies:
Public employees, who are appointed to the professional titles of preschool teachers stipulated in Circular 01/2021/TT-BGDDT, will apply the corresponding salary table issued in conjunction with Decree 204/2004/ND-CP regarding salary policies for officials and public employees and armed forces. Specifically:
- Grade 3 preschool teacher, code V.07.02.26, will apply the salary coefficient of a public employee of category A0, from a salary coefficient of 2.10 to a salary coefficient of 4.89;
- Grade 2 preschool teacher, code V.07.02.25, will apply the salary coefficient of a public employee of category A1, from a salary coefficient of 2.34 to a salary coefficient of 4.98;
- Grade 1 preschool teacher, code V.07.02.24, will apply the salary coefficient of a public employee of category A2, group A2.2, from a salary coefficient of 4.0 to a salary coefficient of 6.38.
The salary for preschool teachers equals the salary coefficient multiplied by the statutory pay rate. On June 30, 2024, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree 73/2024/ND-CP specifying the statutory pay rate and bonus policies for officials and public employees and armed forces.
The statutory pay rate from July 1, 2024, is 2,340,000 VND/month.
Since a preschool teacher grade 2, code V.07.02.25, applies the salary coefficient of a public employee of category A1, from a salary coefficient of 2.34 to a salary coefficient of 4.98, the salary calculation according to Article 3 Circular 07/2024/TT-BNV is as follows:
Salary = 2,340,000 VND x Salary Coefficient
Thus, the salary for a grade 2 preschool teacher will be = salary coefficient x statutory pay rate.
(Salary = 2,340,000 VND x Salary Coefficient (2.34 to 4.98) = from 5,475,600 VND to 11,653,200 VND)

What are new professional title grades appointed to a former grade 2 preschool teacher in Vietnam?
Based on Article 7 Circular 01/2021/TT-BGDDT (amended by Clause 9 Article 1 Circular 08/2023/TT-BGDDT), the appointment to the professional title of preschool teacher is as follows:
Public employees, who have been appointed to the professional titles of preschool teachers according to Inter-Ministerial Circular 20/2015/TTLT-BGDDT-BNV (which has expired and been replaced by Circular 01/2021/TT-BGDDT) will now be appointed to the professional titles of preschool teachers as per this Circular, as follows:
+ Appointed to the professional title of grade 3 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.26) for a grade 4 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.06) who meets the qualification standards of a grade 3 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.26);
+ Appointed to the professional title of grade 3 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.26) for a grade 3 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.05);
+ Appointed to the professional title of grade 2 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.25) for a grade 2 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.04).
A grade 2 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.25) will be appointed to the professional title of grade 1 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.24) when selected through an exam or promotion review to upgrade from grade 2 to grade 1.
Thus, according to the above regulations, a former grade 2 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.25) will be appointed to the new professional title of grade 1 preschool teacher (code V.07.02.24) when selected through an exam or promotion review to upgrade from grade 2 to grade 1.
What are duties of a grade 2 preschool teacher in Vietnam?
According to Clause 1 Article 4 Circular 01/2021/TT-BGDDT, a grade 2 preschool teacher will have the following four (4) duties:
[1] Serve as a lecturer or teach demonstration classes at teacher training courses for preschool teachers at the school level or higher; guide colleagues in implementing programs and activities for nurturing, caring, and educating children;
[2] Propose training content and professional group (block) thematic activities;
[3] Participate in the judging panel for preschool-level competitions from the school level or higher;
[4] Participate in other professional activities such as the self-assessment council or external assessment team; inspect professional skills and pedagogy from the school level or higher; participate in guiding and assessing the teaching practice of students (if any).
Additionally, a grade 2 preschool teacher must also fulfill the duties of a grade 3 preschool teacher.
The duties of a grade 3 preschool teacher are as follows:
- Implement nurturing, caring, and educating children according to the school's and professional group's educational plans; be responsible for the quality and effectiveness of nurturing, caring, and educating children in assigned groups or classes according to the preschool education program; implement inclusive education and children's rights;
- Maintain health; complete training courses and professional development programs; self-study and self-improve in political, professional skills; participate in professional activities; maintain and utilize assigned educational equipment;
- Coordinate with parents or guardians and the community in the nurturing, caring, and educating children;
- Fulfill the obligations of citizens, legal regulations, the regulations of the Education sector, the school, and the locality;
- Perform other duties assigned by the principal.
