How much will the salary of contractual teachers in Vietnam increase from July 1, 2024?
On June 30, the Government of Vietnam promulgated Decree 74/2024/ND-CP increasing the monthly and hourly minimum wage by 6% for workers employed by employers according to regions.
Under the provisions of Clause 1, Article 3 of Decree 74/2024/ND-CP, the new region-based minimum wage from July 1, 2024, for workers will increase ranging from 200,000 to 280,000 VND/month, specifically:

Contractual teachers are those who sign labor contracts with schools (including both public and private schools), receiving salaries as agreed upon between the teachers and educational institutions but not lower than the region-based minimum wage.
Thus, the salaries of contractual teachers will also increase according to the new region-based minimum wage when the contractual teachers and the school agree to raise the salary based on the region-based minimum wage.

What are the details of regions applying region-based minimum wages in Vietnam under Decree 74/2024/ND-CP?
Based on the Appendix issued together with Decree 74/2024/ND-CP, the list of regions applying the minimum wage from July 1, 2024, is as follows:
(1) Region 1, including regions:
- The districts and towns Gia Lam, Dong Anh, Soc Son, Thanh Tri, Thuong Tin, Hoai Duc, Thach That, Quoc Oai, Thanh Oai, Me Linh, Chuong My, and district-level town Son Tay of Hanoi city;

What are the regulations on the application of minimum wage for teachers in Vietnam from July 1, 2024?
According to Article 4 of Decree 74/2024/ND-CP, the application of the minimum wage for teachers from July 1, 2024, is as follows:
- The monthly minimum wage is the lowest base salary used to negotiate and pay wages for workers in general and teachers, in particular, applying the monthly salary payment form, ensuring that the salary for the job or title of the teacher working the full normal working hours in the month and completing the labor quota or agreed work is not lower than the monthly minimum wage.
- The hourly minimum wage is the lowest base salary used to negotiate and pay wages for teachers applying the hourly wage payment form, ensuring that the salary for the job or title of the teacher working in one hour and completing the labor quota or agreed work is not lower than the hourly minimum wage.
- For teachers applying the form of weekly, daily, or other payment forms, the salaries from these forms will be converted to monthly or hourly, not lower than the monthly minimum wage or hourly minimum wage. The conversion based on the normal working hours as chosen by the employer in accordance with labor law provisions.
