How many times is the National Science and Technology Research Competition for Lower and Upper Secondary School Students in Vietnam held annually?

Pursuant to Clause 1, Article 6 of the Regulations on the National Science and Technology Research Competition for Lower and Upper Secondary School Students issued together with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:

Time, Venue, and Funding for Organizing the Competition

1. The competition is held once (01) a year.

  1. The time and venue for the annual competition shall be announced in the organizing guidelines from the Ministry of Education and Training.
  1. The funding for organizing the competition comes from the state budget and other legitimate financial sources, including expenses for the competition at the hosting unit's site paid by the hosting unit and the expenses for project evaluation and judging covered by the Ministry of Education and Training. The content and level of expenses for the competition activities shall comply with current regulations. In cases of specific expenses beyond the general regulations of the Ministry of Finance, the paying units shall submit to the competent authorities for decisions as per the Law on State Budget.

Therefore, the national science and technology research competition for lower and upper secondary school students is organized once a year.

Competing Unit, Number of Projects, Contestants, and Advisors

  1. Contestants and Research Advisors

a) Contestants must meet the following conditions:

- Be students in grades 8, 9, 10, 11, 12;

- Voluntarily participate and be selected for the competition team of the competing unit;

- Have academic and conduct results from semester I (if the competition is held in semester II) or from the school year immediately preceding the year the competition is held (if the competition is held in semester I) rated fairly good or higher;

- Each contestant may only participate in one (01) project per competition.

b) Research Advisors

- Each project must have at least one (01) research advisor who is a teacher or staff member with relevant expertise working at the educational institution where the contestant is studying.

- Each research advisor may only guide one (01) project per competition.

What are purposes and requirements of the National Science and Technology Research Competition for lower and upper secondary school students in vietnam?

According to Article 2 of the Regulations on the National Science and Technology Research Competition for Lower and Upper Secondary School Students issued together with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT, the purposes and requirements of the competition are as follows:

- Purposes

+ Encourage students (hereinafter referred to as students) to research science and technology and apply the knowledge they have learned to solve practical problems;

+ Contribute to innovation in teaching methods, testing, and evaluation; promote integrated education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); improve the quality of teaching in educational institutions;

+ Create opportunities for students to present their scientific and technological research results; enhance cultural, educational exchange, and international integration among localities.

- Requirements

+ The content of students' scientific and technological research must be practical, suitable for their age, and in line with the goals of developing students' qualities and competencies as per the general education program;

+ The organization of student participation in scientific and technological research must ensure safety, seriousness, transparency, align with students' abilities, interests, and willingness to participate;

+ The organization of the competition must be practical, effective, honest, objective, and accurately assess students' abilities.

What are the requirements for projects participating in the National Science and Technology Research Competition for lower and upper secondary school students in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 4 of the Regulations on the National Science and Technology Research Competition for Lower and Upper Secondary School Students issued together with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT, the requirements for projects participating in the competition are as follows:

- Ensure honesty in scientific research; no fraud, unauthorized copying, or falsification; do not use or present others' research content and results as one's own.

- The research period for the project should not exceed 12 continuous months, starting from January of the year preceding the competition year to 30 days before the competition inauguration date.

- Group projects cannot replace members once the project has commenced. The project results must reflect the contributions of individual members.

- Projects that research pathogens, hazardous chemicals, or substances negatively affecting the environment are not eligible for the competition.

- Projects must be approved, assessed by the educational institution where the student is studying, and selected by the competing unit as defined in Clause 1, Article 5 of the Regulations on the National Science and Technology Research Competition for Lower and Upper Secondary School Students issued together with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT according to the regulations in Article 12 of the Regulations on the National Science and Technology Research Competition for Lower and Upper Secondary School Students issued together with Circular 06/2024/TT-BGDDT.

- Projects must meet the display requirements as stipulated by the Competition Organizing Committee.
