Pursuant to Article 6 of the Regulations on working policies for general education teachers issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT, supplemented by Clause 5, Article 1 Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT, the following regulations apply:

Teaching period norms

Teaching period norms are the number of theoretical or practical periods that each teacher must teach in one week. To be specific:

1. The teaching period norm for primary school teachers is 23 periods, lower secondary school teachers is 19 periods, and upper secondary school teachers is 17 periods;

2. The teaching period norm for teachers at ethnic boarding schools is 17 periods at the lower secondary level and 15 periods at the upper secondary level;

The teaching period norm for teachers at ethnic semi-boarding schools is 21 periods at the primary level and 17 periods at the lower secondary level;

The teaching period norm for teachers at schools and classes for the disabled and handicapped is 21 periods for primary school teachers and 17 periods for lower secondary school teachers.

2a The teaching period norm for teachers at preparatory universities is 12 periods

3. Teachers who act as the Chief of the Ho Chi Minh Pioneers at grade I schools teach 2 periods a week, grade II schools teach 1/3 of the teaching period norm, and grade III schools teach 1/2 of the teaching period norm of teachers at the same educational level. The classification of general education schools complies with the current regulations.

Therefore, according to the regulations in Vietnam, a regular lower secondary school teacher will teach 19 periods/week.

Pursuant to Clause 4, Article 8 of the Regulations on working policies for general education teachers issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT, supplemented by Clause 8, Article 1 of Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT, the policies for reducing teaching period norms are regulated as follows:

Regime for reduction of teaching period norms for teachers concurrently holding other specialized roles

1. Homeroom teachers at the primary level are reduced by 3 periods/week, at the lower secondary and upper secondary levels by 4 periods/week.

2. Homeroom teachers at ethnic boarding schools at the lower secondary and upper secondary levels are reduced by 4 periods/week. Homeroom teachers at specialized schools and semi-boarding schools are reduced by 4 periods/week. Homeroom teachers at schools and classes for the disabled and handicapped are reduced by 3 periods/week.

2a. Homeroom teachers at preparatory universities are reduced by 3 periods/week.

3. Teachers concurrently in charge of subject classrooms are reduced by 3 periods/subject/week.

4. Teachers concurrently responsible for managing the school’s artistic, physical education programs, school garden, school workshop, equipment room, and library (if these tasks do not have specialized staff) are reduced from 2 - 3 periods/week, depending on the workload and as decided by the principal.

5. Subject group leaders are reduced by 3 periods/week.

5a. Deputy head of specialized groups are reduced by 1 period/week.

5b. Teachers concurrently heading functional rooms at preparatory universities are reduced by 3 periods/week;

Teachers concurrently deputy heads of functional rooms at preparatory universities are reduced by 1 period/week.

Therefore, according to the above regulation, lower secondary school teachers assigned to manage school artistic activities are reduced from 2 - 3 periods/week depending on the workload and as decided by the principal.

What are the 8 tasks that lower secondary school teachers must perform in the 2024-2025 academic year in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 27 of the Charter for lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, and multi-level schools issued by the Ministry of Education and Training together with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, the tasks of lower secondary school teachers are regulated as follows:

[1] Organize teaching and educational activities according to the school’s educational plan and the professional group’s educational plan; manage students in educational activities organized by the school; participate in professional activities; take responsibility for the quality and effectiveness of education.

[2] Cultivate ethics, uphold responsibility, maintain the dignity and prestige of the teaching profession; set an example for students; love, treat fairly and respect the personality of students; protect the legitimate rights and interests of students; unite and help colleagues.

[3] Study and train to improve health, political awareness, professional knowledge, skills, and method innovation in teaching and education.

[4] Participate in professional development training sessions.

[5] Participate in activities to popularize lower secondary education in the locality.

[6] Fulfill civic duties, adhere to laws and regulations in the Education sector, follow the principal's decisions; complete tasks assigned by the principal, subject to inspection and evaluation by the principal and other educational management levels.

[7] Coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Pioneers Team, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Vietnam Student Association, students' families, and related social organizations to organize educational activities.

[8] Perform other tasks as prescribed by law.
