Required outcomes
1. Students of pedagogical intermediate schools, after completing the National Defense and Security Education curriculum, shall have a fundamental understanding of the policies and guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State on the establishment of a comprehensive national defense and people's security, with affection for socialism. They shall be proficient in the basic formation commands with firearms, know single unit formations; possess general knowledge about the military branches within the Vietnamese People's Army; have initial understanding of military maps; and be aware of how to avoid enemy high-tech weapon attacks.
Students, after completing the National Defense and Security Education curriculum, shall have a basic understanding of the policies and guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State on establishing a comprehensive national defense and people's security, with affection for socialism. They shall grasp basic knowledge of defense and security work in the modern context. They shall be proficient in the basic formation commands with firearms, know single unit formations; possess general knowledge about the military branches within the Vietnamese People's Army; have initial understanding of military maps; and be aware of how to avoid enemy high-tech weapon attacks. Which students are exempt from studying National Defense and Security Education in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 4 of the Joint Circular 18/2015/TTLT-BGDDT-BLDTBXH, the cases of exemption and postponement from studying National Defense and Security Education in Vietnam are specified as follows:
Students exempted from studying and taking tests for the National Defense and Security Education
1. Students exempt from studying National Defense and Security Education:
a) Students with a reserve officer certificate or a graduation diploma issued by military or police schools;
b) Students who already have a National Defense and Security Education certificate corresponding to their level of study;
c) Students who are foreigners.
2. Subjects exempted from studying or taking exams in any unit of study or content within the National Defense and Security Education curriculum include: students with a confirmation of achieving at least 5 out of 10 points in those unit of study contents.
3. Subjects exempted from studying practical military skills content:
a) Students who are disabled, with a disability certificate according to the legal provisions for persons with disabilities;
b) Students who are physically unfit or suffer from health conditions that exempt them from military service according to current regulations;
c) Students who have completed their military or people's police service.
