Based on Section 8 of the Vietnamese language Curriculum of General Education issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the implementation duration of the Vietnamese language program at different educational levels is as follows:
(1) The implementation duration of the program at various grades (in terms of periods)

At the upper secondary school level, each grade has an additional 35 periods for elective study modules.
(2) Duration allocated to educational content
The duration allocated to educational content is arranged proactively by the textbook authors and teachers based on the requirements to be achieved at each grade and the actual teaching circumstances. However, there should be a reasonable balance between the following components:
- Between equipping knowledge and practicing skills (focus on practicing and applying skills).
- Between different types and forms of texts for reading, writing, speaking, and listening (allocate more time for reading literary texts).
- Between reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills (allocate more time for practicing reading skills).
Specifically, the duration allocation for each skill at different grade levels is as follows:

What are regulations on the teaching materials for the Vietnamese language subject?
Section 8 of the Vietnamese language Curriculum of General Education issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT regulates teaching equipment for the subject of Vietnamese language as follows:
The minimum teaching equipment for Vietnamese language includes a reference bookshelf with all major types of texts, such as literary documents, argumentative documents, and informational documents; all forms of books such as stories and comic books.
In each major type of text, there should be sufficient sub-types: literary documents including stories, poetry, drama, and essays; argumentative documents including literary and societal arguments; informational documents including explanatory and practical texts.
Some images, such as portraits of significant writers included in the curriculum and illustrations for the content and artistry of notable works such as "Nam Quoc Son Ha," "Hich Tuong Si," "Binh Ngo Dai Cao," "Truyen Kieu," "Van Te Nghia Si Can Giuoc," and "Tuyen Ngon Doc Lap."
Schools with the means should connect to the Internet, have computers, screens, and projectors; additionally, they should be equipped with some teaching software for the Vietnamese language, CDs, and video clips featuring famous landscapes, historical sites of the country, and the hometowns of writers (for teaching and learning explanatory texts);
Furthermore, they should have some animated films, and feature films adapted from literary works or CDs, and video clips of performances from literary scripts; CD recordings of music based on selected poems used as teaching materials or some extended reading texts, exchanges, and specialized talks by writers, researchers, and literary critics; textbooks for Vietnamese language, literary books, and digital literary education materials.
What are the overall goals of the Vietnamese language education program?
Based on Section 3 of the Vietnamese language Curriculum of General Education issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the overall goals of the Vietnamese language education program are as follows:
- To form and develop in students the essential qualities: patriotism, kindness, diligence, honesty, and responsibility; to nurture their soul, shape their character, and develop their personality.
To help students explore themselves and the world around them, understand people, have a rich inner life, have humane perspectives and behaviors; to foster a love for the Vietnamese language and Vietnamese language; to raise awareness of the origins and identity of the nation, contributing to the preservation and development of Vietnamese cultural values; to cultivate a spirit of absorbing the essence of human culture and the ability to integrate internationally.
- To contribute to helping students develop general competencies: self-reliance and self-study, communication and cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity.
Especially, the subject of Vietnamese language (Vietnamese Language) helps students develop linguistic and literary competencies: train skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening; acquire a fundamental system of knowledge about Vietnamese and Vietnamese language, develop imaginative and logical thinking, thereby forming the basic education of a cultured individual; know how to create common texts; know how to receive, evaluate literary texts specifically, human communication products, and aesthetic values in general in life.
