How long can university admission results in Vietnam be deferred?
Based on Clause 2, Article 10 of the Regulation on University Admission and College Admission in Early Childhood Education issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, the deferral of admission results is stipulated as follows:
Deferral of Admission Results
- Candidates who have received an admission notice can defer their admission results in the following cases:
a) Fulfilling military service duties or participating in concentrated youth volunteer activities immediately in the year of admission according to a decision or order from the competent authority;
b) Suffering from severe illness or a serious accident that prevents them from enrolling on time, with a medical record and confirmation from the competent medical authority.
2. Candidates falling under the provisions of Clause 1 must submit a deferral application along with supporting documents to the training institution calling for enrollment. The maximum deferral period is determined by the training institution, but it must not be less than 3 years for those specified in Point a, Clause 1 of this Article.
- Immediately after being eligible to return to study, the candidate who has deferred their admission results must carry out enrollment procedures according to the regulations of the training institution, including providing evidence of completing the assigned tasks or having recovered from treatment. For cases specified in Clause 1 of this Article with a deferral period of 3 years or more, the training institution considers placing them in preparatory classes for brushing up before formal admission.
Thus, the deferral period for university admission results is determined by the training institution. For deferrals due to duties according to a decision/order from the competent authority, the deferral period is not less than 3 years.

Can university candidates who are directly admitted without confirming enrollment still register on the common system in Vietnam?
Based on Clause 4, Article 17 of the Regulation on University Admission and College Admission in Early Childhood Education issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:
Direct Admission Registration and Selection
- Based on the published admission scheme, the training institution organizes for candidates who qualify for direct admission according to Article 8 of this Regulation to register online or directly at the training institution.
- The training institution organizes direct admission for eligible candidates and announces the results according to the common schedule.
- Candidates admitted directly can confirm their enrollment early (when qualified) or according to the common schedule like other candidates; the training institution must not require candidates to confirm enrollment earlier than the scheduled timeline.
4. Candidates who are directly admitted but have not confirmed enrollment can still use the right to register for admission on the common system to have additional chances like other candidates.
Thus, candidates directly admitted to university without confirming enrollment can use the registration right on the common system to have additional chances of admission like other candidates.
If a candidate is admitted to multiple programs and universities in Vietnam, which admission result will be taken?
Based on Clause 3, Article 19 of the Regulation on University Admission and College Admission in Early Childhood Education issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:
Admission Registration on the System According to the Common Schedule
- The Ministry of Education and Training supports organizing the first official round registration for all admission methods of training institutions. The registration period starts after the high school graduation exam and ends after the exam results and high school graduation assessments are available.
- Candidates for the first official round of training (including those who participated in the early admission plan of the training institution) register on the system (through the MOET Admission Portal or National Public Service Portal) according to the common schedule and guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Candidates can register aspirations to multiple programs and universities without restriction on quantity, but must prioritize aspirations from high to low. In the event that multiple aspirations qualify for admission, the candidate will only be recognized and called for admission according to the highest aspiration.

What are the principles of university admission in Vietnam?

- Admission scores are determined to ensure the number of recruits per program, training course aligns with the announced quota but not lower than the entry threshold;
- For a training program (or a training course) under a specific admission method and subject combination, all candidates are considered equally based on admission scores regardless of the priority order of registered aspirations, except in cases where candidates have the same admission score at the end of the list; the training institution may use the additional criterion of aspiration order (to select candidates with higher aspiration order);
