On January 9, 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued Official Dispatch 176/SGDDT-GDTXCNDH download, aimed at ensuring the effectiveness and compliance with the Ministry of Education and Training in organizing career orientation, student classification, and enrollment consulting for the 2024 - 2025 academic year. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires:
- Comply with the regulations on organizing Experiential career orientation activities in schools according to Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT.
- The time for organizing career orientation, student classification, and enrollment consulting must align with the academic year's plan of the unit; based on the school's situation and student needs, the unit head must develop a plan for organization and safety measures for the school;
- Avoid overlapping activities that overload teachers and students and do not yield effectiveness; the cooperating unit in organizing these activities must meet the legal documentation, functionality, and organizational capacity requirements.
- Do not organize advertising activities or overseas study consultancy during career orientation, student classification and enrollment consulting sessions.
- Ensure compliance with regulations on collecting, managing, and using teachers' and students' data and information; do not provide students' or parents' personal information for advertising or enrollment purposes.

What is career orientation in education in Vietnam?
Article 9 of the Education Law 2019 stipulates as follows:
Career orientation and student classification
1. Career orientation in education is a system of measures implemented inside and outside educational institutions to provide students with knowledge about professions and the ability to choose a profession based on a combination of personal desires, fortes and social labour demands.
2. Student classification is a measure of organizing educational activities on the basis of career orientation in education, enabling lower secondary and upper secondary graduates to continue with their studies in higher educational levels/qualifications or vocational education or to join the labour force with regard to personal capacity, circumstances and social demands, contributing to the regulation of the professional structure following the developing requirements of the country.
3. The Government shall provide for career orientation and student classification in each period of time, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development.
Thus, career orientation in education is a system of measures implemented inside and outside educational institutions to provide students with knowledge about professions and the ability to choose a profession based on a combination of personal desires, fortes and social labour demands.
Are experiential and career orientation activities mandatory content in the general education program in Vietnam?
According to the general education program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, experiential activities (for primary level) and Experiential, career orientation activities (for lower and upper secondary levels) are compulsory educational activities implemented from grade 1 to grade 12.
Experiential and career orientation activities contribute to forming and developing key qualities, general competencies, and specific competencies for students; the activity content is developed based on students’ relationships with themselves, society, nature, and professions.
The content of experiential and career orientation activities is divided according to two phases: basic education phase and career-oriented education phase.
- Basic education phase:
At the primary level, the content of experiential activities focuses on activities exploring self, self-training activities, activities developing relationships with friends, teachers, and family members. Social activities and exploring some professions close to students are also organized with content and forms appropriate to their age group.
At the lower secondary level, the content of experiential and career orientation activities focuses more on social activities, activities directed at nature, and career orientation activities; concurrently, activities focusing on self continue to be implemented to develop students’ qualities and competencies.
- Career-oriented education phase:
Besides activities directed towards individuals, society, and nature, the content of experiential and career orientation activities at the upper secondary level focuses more on career orientation education activities to develop career orientation competencies.
Through career orientation activities, students are evaluated and self-evaluated on their competencies, strengths, and interests related to careers, forming a basis to choose appropriate careers and cultivate qualities and competencies to adapt to future careers.
