2025 marks many important historical events for Vietnam, serving as an opportunity for the entire nation to look back and honor the brilliant milestones in the journey of building and defending the country.

According to Official Dispatch 3837/BTTTT-TTDN in 2024 issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications, there is a plan to implement propaganda activities and foreign affairs information on major national holidays in 2025 as per the conclusions of the Secretariat, including 05 major commemorative events or Vietnam's historical milestones during 2025 as follows:

These events not only provide a chance to revisit history but also offer the present and future generations an opportunity to learn more about the resilient struggle tradition of the nation, thereby continuing to promote and build a more prosperous and happy country.

In the 05 major events during 2025, on which date will students in Vietnam be entitled to days off?

Currently, there are no specific regulations regarding holiday schedules for students. Therefore, students will study and have holidays according to the school and teacher's schedule.

Under the provisions of Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019, which specifies public holidays as follows:

Public holidays

1. Employees shall be entitled to fully paid days off on the following public holidays:

a) Gregorian Calendar New Year Holiday: 01 day (the 1st of January of the Gregorian calendar);

b) Lunar New Year Holidays: 05 days;

c) Victory Day: 01 day (the 30th of April of the Gregorian calendar);

d) International Labor Day: 01 day (the 1st of May of the Gregorian calendar);

dd) National Day: 02 days (the 2nd of September of the Gregorian calendar and the previous or next day);

e) Hung Kings Commemoration Day: 01 day (the 10th of the third month of the Lunar calendar).

2. Foreign employees in Vietnam are entitled to 01 traditional public holiday and 01 National Day of their country, in addition to the public holidays stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article.

3. The Prime Minister shall decide the specific public holidays mentioned in Point b and Point dd Clause 1 of this Article on an annual basis.

 

Thus, during the 5 major events of 2025, students in Vietnam will be entitled to days off on:

- 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification

- National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

Note: The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee will decide the specific academic year plan for each province.

How many days off are students in Vietnam and teachers entitled to for Victory Day?

On December 3, 2024, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs issued Notice 6150/TB-BLDTBXH in 2024, informing the holidays for Victory Day (April 30) and May 1, 2025, for officials and public employees and staff working in non-state enterprises.

Officials and public employees will switch the working day from Friday, May 2, 2025, to Saturday, April 26, 2025. Hence, for the holidays of Victory Day on April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1, 2025, officials and public employees will have 05 continuous days off from Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to the end of Sunday, May 4, 2025, (making up on Saturday, April 26, 2025).

Currently, there are no specific regulations regarding holiday schedules for students. Therefore, students will study and have holidays according to the school and teacher's schedule.

Thus, teachers and students will have the holidays of Victory Day on April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1, 2025, from April 30, 2025, to May 4, 2025, (from Wednesday to Sunday), totaling 05 continuous days off.

What are the regulations on the annual leave for teachers who are Vietnamese public employees?

Under Clause 1, Article 13 of the Law on Public Employees 2010:

Rights of public employees regarding rest

1. Be entitled to annual leave, holiday leave, and private leave as prescribed by labor law. If due to work requirements, a public employee does not use or uses less than the number of annual leave days, they will receive compensation for the unused days.

According to Article 113 of the Labor Code 2019, the annual leave for teachers is stipulated as follows:

- Any employee who has been working for an employer for 12 months is entitled to fully-paid annual leave, which is stipulated in his/her employment contract as follows:

+ 12 working days for employees who work in normal working conditions;

+ 14 working days for employees that are minors, the disabled, employees who do laborious, toxic or dangerous works;

+ 16 working days for employees who do highly laborious, toxic or dangerous works.

- An employee who has been working for an employer for less than 12 months will have a number of paid leave days proportional to the number of working months.

- An employee who, due to employment termination or job loss, has not taken or not entirely taken up his/her annual leave shall be paid in compensation for the untaken leave days.

- The employer has the responsibility to regulate the timetable for annual leaves after consultation with the employees and must give prior notice to the employees. An employee may reach an agreement with the employer on taking annual leave in instalments or combining annual leave over a maximum period of up to 03 years.

- When an employee takes his/her annual leave before salary payment is due, he/she may receive an advance in accordance with Clause 3 Article 101 of this Labor Code.

- When taking annual leave, should the employee travel by road, rail, water and the travel days, the traveling time in excess to 02 days will be added to the annual leave days, and this policy shall only be granted once for an annual leave in a year.
