Is the Student Orientation Week in Vietnam compulsory?
Based on the Regulations on political, ethical, and lifestyle education for students in universities, colleges, and professional intermediate schools issued together with Decision 50/2007/QD-BGDDT, the following requirements are specified:
The work of educating political, ethical, and lifestyle qualities for students in schools is a key and regular task of schools, directly overseen by the Director, Principal (hereinafter referred to as the Principal).
Clause 4, Article 8 of Decision 50/2007/QD-BGDDT stipulates that one of the measures to implement political, ethical, and lifestyle education for students is to organize the Orientation Week – students at the beginning and end of the academic year.
Additionally, Clause 2, Article 9 of Decision 50/2007/QD-BGDDT stipulates that the duration for the Orientation Week – students is at least 5 sessions, with the remaining 5 sessions allocated for other contents throughout the academic year.
Therefore, it can be seen that the "Student Orientation Week" is not a main course in the academic program for students, but it is a compulsory educational activity that all students of all classes must participate in fully, even those who participated in previous years (for example, first-year students who participated must still attend in subsequent years, such as second, third, and fourth years).
