Regular eye checkups: Have regular eye examinations to detect eye problems early.

Eye Exercises

Do not self-prescribe eye drops: Use eye drops only as directed by a doctor.

Avoid exposure to dust and smoke: Dust and smoke can irritate and damage the eyes.

Note:

If you experience eye issues like blurry vision, eye pain, double vision, excessive tearing... consult a specialist doctor for timely examination and treatment.

What is the role of school health in eye care for preschool children in Vietnam?

According to subsection 1.2, Section 1, Part 1 of Decision 56/QD/BGDDT, the regulation on the role of school health in eye care within schools is as follows:

- Caring for, protecting, and improving children's health play a crucial role in the comprehensive development of their physical, intellectual, and mental well-being. Children are the future generation of the country, and the health of today's students represents the health of our nation in the future. Currently, there are over 15,000 preschools (including nurseries, kindergartens, and preschools) and over 15,000 independent childcare facilities (including independent nursery groups, independent kindergarten classes, and independent preschool classes) nationwide.

- Besides educational concerns, children need to access healthcare services and prevent common diseases and disorders caused by school-related factors, including eye diseases. Preschool children are at an age of rapid physical and developmental growth, and several eye diseases and disorders that occur in adulthood originate in this age group. Therefore, to ensure a healthy future generation, care must begin early.

- The school environment is a place with a large density of individuals (35 - 50 children in a classroom), over long durations per day (5-8 hours) and annually (9 - 10 months), creating numerous health risk factors.

- Without prompt care from school health services, children are susceptible to developing eye disorders and injuries, potentially leaving lifelong after-effects. Effective healthcare and parental health education communications can have a positive impact on the prevention of eye diseases and disorders within families and communities.

In the changing socio-economic landscape, school-related diseases, in general, and some eye-related diseases for children and students are on the rise, significantly impacting health and academic performance. Although children are at high risk of diseases, effective prevention through early detection and control of risk factors causing eye diseases, such as improved school hygiene, proper nutrition, enhanced physical activities, and good personal hygiene practices, are possible.

- school health is essential and vital. Over the years, the health and education sectors have made significant efforts to build a school health network from central to local levels to carry out student healthcare tasks, creating a conducive environment for students to study and develop both physically and mentally.

- Effective and close coordination in school health plays a key role in school eye care. school health staff proactively plan and coordinate with homeroom teachers to conduct at least one vision test per year for children, lists children with vision problems awaiting specialized examination, and effectively implements vision screening, recognizing common eye conditions at schools relying on school health staff responsibility and effective collaboration with local healthcare facilities.

Under Section 6, Part 2 of Decision 56/QD/BGDDT, regulations on handling preschool children's vision impairment at school are outlined as follows:

- For children detected or suspected of vision impairment, the preschool should immediately inform the parents or caregivers. school health staff together with the teacher should guide parents to take their children to specialized eye clinics at the earliest.

- school health staff should list children with vision impairment once there are official results from specialized eye clinics for monitoring, cooperating with the children's parents, teachers, and the school to establish specific policies for the children.

- Record information in the child's health monitoring book.

- Remind parents of children with poor vision to conduct regular checkups at least once a year for normal children and every six months for children wearing glasses.
