What are the instructions for making a favorite toy for 4th-grade students in Vietnam?

Crafting a favorite toy by oneself not only brings joy but also helps hone skills such as dexterity, creativity, and patience. This is an exciting activity suitable for 4th-grade students, allowing them to learn while playing, utilizing simple everyday materials. To make a toy, students should follow specific steps, from preparing tools and materials to executing and completing the product.

Students can refer to the following instructions for making a favorite toy:

Example 1: Steps to Make a Favorite Toy - Wind Chime:

- Preparation:

+ Tools: scissors, pliers, small rope (paracord), awl

+ Materials: small wooden stick, seashells, watercolor paints, paintbrush

- How to make a seashell wind chime:

+ Step 1: Use the awl to pierce a small hole (large enough for the rope to pass through) at the top of each seashell.

+ Step 2: Cut the rope into pieces of two different lengths (one type 20cm long, another 30cm long).

+ Step 3: Use the pieces of rope to thread through the pierced seashells. Thread 4 seashells on the 20cm rope and 6 seashells on the 30cm rope (leaving a piece of rope at the top for use).

+ Step 4: Tie knots near the seashells on each piece of rope, so that the shells stay in place and don’t slide to one side.

+ Step 5: Tie the ropes with the seashells onto the pre-prepared wooden stick (alternate between short and long ropes). Do not tie them too far apart, so the shells can collide and produce sound.

+ Step 6: Use watercolor to decorate the wooden stick and the seashells.

+ Step 7: Tie a long piece of rope at both ends of the wooden stick to hang it up high. It’s best to hang it in a spacious area where there is wind so it can frequently produce joyful sounds.

Example 2: Steps to Make a Favorite Toy - Paper Chicken:

- Preparation:

+ Colored paper, white paper

+ Scissors and pen

- How to make a paper toy chicken:

+ Step 1: Draw the shapes as shown in figure 1 below on white paper. Then, overlay yellow paper on the white paper and cut along those shapes. Use orange paper for the chicken’s beak and base for added appeal. Areas with dashed lines indicate where to fold.

+ Step 2: Form circles and glue them together.

+ Step 3: Attach the beak and wings as illustrated in figure 2 below.

+ Step 4: Draw eyes or use plush eyes and attach to complete the chicken.

Example 3: Steps to Make a Favorite Toy - Paper Rabbit:

- Preparation:

+ Colored paper, white paper

+ Pen, scissors, and glue

- How to make a paper toy rabbit:

+ Step 1: Draw 4 shapes as shown in figure 1, with dashed lines indicating folds.

+ Step 2: Use scissors to cut paper along the drawn lines. For the base, use pink paper over white and cut according to the shape.

+ Step 3: Glue the two rectangular shapes to form the body and head of the rabbit and attach them together.

+ Step 4: The rabbit’s ears are to be folded along the dashed lines and glued to the head.

+ Step 5: Attach the rabbit to the pink base, draw additional eyes, nose, and mouth, and your lovely rabbit is ready for play.

Example 5: Steps to Make a Favorite Toy - Paper Buffalo:

- Preparation:

+ Craft paper of any color, square shape

- How to make a paper toy buffalo:

+ Step 1: Fold the paper diagonally and in half in both directions. Fold the two edges back to create four parallel, equally spaced creases. Continue folding the edges in the other direction to form a paper with evenly sized small squares.

+ Step 2: Fold the paper along the natural creases to obtain a shape resembling an arrow. Fold it in half lengthwise, bend the two side tips along the top edges. Fold the inner tip in half and stand it up, directing it outward.

+ Step 3: Fold the front tip down and fold the entire shape in half. Adjust the ears to be soft and curve back.

+ Step 4: Open the body and fold up, fold down again. Press the two shoulders inside.

+ Step 5: Bend the two bottom edges inward. Fold the back edges inward to form two legs.

+ Step 6: Make slight adjustments to the head, and your paper buffalo is complete.
