What are the guidelines for proper grenade-throwing technique in 11th-grade National Defense Education in Vietnam?

Below are the guidelines for proper grenade-throwing technique in 11th-grade National Defense Education in Vietnam:

1. Standing Grenade Throwing

[1.1] Application Situations

- Standing grenade throwing is generally used when the enemy is far away, the terrain has obstacles that obscure or shelter up to chest height; you can throw from a stationary position or while moving.

[1.2] Movement

- The person throwing may be moving or stationary holding a gun (if carrying a gun, it must be shifted to the holding position while performing three movements (applied to both kneeling and prone grenade throws):

+ Movement 1: The left hand holds the gun (gripping below the handguard) and lifts the gun to waist level, the muzzle pointing upward. The right hand takes out the grenade, the right hand holds the grenade (with the lever within the palm) and pulls the safety pin sideways to the left, the left hand straightens the safety pin, the index finger hooks into the pin ring, combining the holding and pulling force of both hands to remove the safety pin. The safety pin must be removed straight in line with the hole axis.

+ Movement 2: Step forward with the left foot (or step back with the right foot) in a long stride, left foot aligned with the throwing direction, using the left toe and right heel as pivots, turning right (lifting the left heel), leaning slightly forward, left knee bent, right leg straight.

+ Movement 3: The right hand swings the grenade back downward to gain momentum, leaning backward, left leg straight, right knee slightly bent. Use the right arm's thrust, combined with the body's thrust and the right leg's bounce to throw the grenade. When the right arm swings the grenade forward at about a 45° angle with the horizontal plane, the body faces the target, the left hand brings the gun backward concurrently taking a long stride forward, continuing to fire or throw another grenade.

Note:

+ Left-handed throwers should perform the opposite;

+ To throw far, coordination of the leg's bounce, body's stretch, and the arm's strong and sudden thrust is necessary;

+ When swinging the grenade forward, maintain natural arm curvature without being overly straight or overly bent to gain strong thrust, releasing the grenade at the right moment and angle, in the right direction.

2. Kneeling Grenade Throwing

[2.1] Application Situations

- When close to the enemy and the terrain is restricted (obstacles between 60 - 80 cm high), kneeling grenade throwing is applied.

[2.2] Movement

- Movement 1: Hold the gun with the right hand, step diagonally right with the left foot (left heel 20 - 30 cm from the right toe), aligning the right edge of the left foot with the left edge of the right foot.

- Movement 2: Using the right toe as a pivot, swing the heel up forming a roughly 90° angle with the throwing direction, kneel the right knee down aligning the right toe direction with the left foot, right side resting on the right heel, left shin vertical, gun resting on the left forearm with the muzzle turned inward (Illustration 10.9a). The right hand takes out the grenade, right palm gripping it (same as standing throw movement).

- Movement 3: Left hand holds the gun, stock turned left, muzzle angled up right, left hand pulls out the pin, pivot with the toe while turning right, slightly leaning back, right knee in line with the turn, slightly rising on the hips. The right hand swings the grenade through the right side, backward for momentum, concurrently using the right arm's thrust, body's stretch, and the right thigh's bounce to throw the grenade toward the target.

3. Prone Grenade Throwing

[3.1] Application Situations

- When near the enemy in open terrain with no obstacles or obstacles not exceeding 40 cm high, prone grenade throwing is applied.

[3.2] Movement

- Movement 1: Right hand holding the gun, step forward with the right foot in line with the direction of the right toe, left foot pivoting on the toe turning the heel left, aiming the body according to the direction of the right foot, support left hand on the ground about 20 cm in front of the right toe, fingers pointing back rightward, sequentially placing the left forearm, left thigh on the ground and lying down.

- Movement 2: Position the gun to the right, magazine box left-facing, muzzle aligned with the target, body slightly left-leaning, take out the grenade with both hands, right hand holding the grenade, left hand pulling out the pin.

- Movement 3:

+ Both hands supporting chest height, left toe and left knee supporting, lift and push the body slightly above ground backward, left leg straightened, right leg naturally extending backward till the left knee aligns horizontally with the waist.

+ The right hand swings the grenade rightward back to its maximum extent, left hand aiding the upper body's half rotation, right leg turning right in rhythm, slightly arched body backward, simultaneously using the right arm's thrust, body's bounce, and the left leg's push to throw the grenade towards the target and lie down, proceeding to throw another or continue firing or advancing.

Note:

Grenade throwing must combine the arm's thrust and body's bounce for distance, simultaneously turning right along the throw axis for momentum and maintaining straight trajectory. Do not kneel before throwing as high posture is easily exposed.
