Under Article 44 of the Regulations on the high school graduation exam issued together with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 8, 2025), the formula for calculating the high school graduation assessment score in Vietnam is as follows:

- The high school graduation assessment score includes:
+ Scores of the papers taken by the candidates for graduation assessment, converted to a 10-point scale to calculate the graduation score;
+ The GPA of all years at the upper secondary level (The average of all years) is calculated by the following formula:

++ GPA of grade 10, GPA of grade 11, and GPA of grade 12 is the arithmetic mean of all subjects assessed by scores for each respective year.
++ The GPA of each school year and the GPA of all school years are rounded to 2 (two) decimal places.
+ Priority points, extra points if applicable.
Thus, under the new High School Graduation Exam in Vietnam Regulation effective from February 8, 2025, the high school graduation assessment score in Vietnam be calculated under GPA and exam scores with a 50-50 ratio. This marks a difference compared to previous years by increasing the GPA weight from 30% to 50%.
At the same time, the GPA is calculated using weights, with grade 12 having the highest weight, while the GPAs of grades 10 and 11 have lesser weights.

What are the cases eligible for extra points in the high school graduation exam in Vietnam from 2025?
Under Article 43 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDĐT (effective from February 8, 2025), the cases eligible for extra points in the high school graduation exam are as follows:
Students participating in the following competitions and activities during their upper secondary education can receive extra points for high school graduation assessment:
- Winning individual prizes in the national excellent student selection exam: Winning first, second, or third prize in the national exam or first place at the provincial level will be awarded 2.0 points; consolation prize in the national exam or second place at the provincial level will receive 1.5 points; third place at the provincial level will receive 1.0 point;
- Winning individual and team prizes in laboratory practice exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology; performing arts; sports; national defense education competitions; scientific and technical contests; and international letter-writing competitions co-organized by the Education sector with specialized agencies at the provincial level or above.
+ For individual prizes: Winning first, second, or third prize at the national level or first place at the provincial level or Gold Medal will be awarded 2.0 points; consolation prize at the national level or fourth prize in national science and technical contests or second place at the provincial level or Silver Medal receives 1.5 points; third place at the provincial level or Bronze Medal receives 1.0 point;
+ For team prizes: extra points are only awarded for national prizes; the number of players, athletes, and performers in the team prizes is regulated specifically by the Organizing Committee of each competition; the level of extra points awarded to individuals in team prizes is implemented as for individual prizes stipulated at this point.
- Students winning multiple different prizes in various competitions/exams will only be entitled to one extra point level corresponding to the highest prize type.
Who is eligible for the priority point of 0.25 in the High School Graduation Exam in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Clause 2 of Article 42 of the High School Graduation Exam in Vietnam Regulation issued with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 8, 2025), candidates eligible for the priority point of 0.25 in the High School Graduation Exam in Vietnam incldue:
- War invalids, sick soldiers, and persons entitled to policies like war invalids with a reduction in work capacity under 81% (for continuing education);
- Children of war invalids, sick soldiers, persons entitled to policies like war invalids with a reduction in work capacity under 81%; People's Armed Forces Hero, Labor Hero; children of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; children of People's Armed Forces Heroes, Labor Heroes;
- Ethnic minorities;
- Kinh people, foreigners residing in Vietnam with a permanent residence during high school for 3 years or more in especially difficult communes, border communes, and safe zones eligible for Program 135 investment under Decision 135/QD-TTg dated July 31, 1998, of the Prime Minister of Vietnam (calculated from when these communes completed Program 135 backward);
Especially difficult communes in coastal and island regions; communes in regions 1, 2, 3, and communes with especially difficult hamlets in ethnic minority and mountainous areas according to current regulations by the Prime Minister of Vietnam or Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Committee, studying at high schools not located in the central districts of cities under the Central authority for at least two-thirds of high school time;
- Persons affected by chemical toxins; children of persons affected by chemical toxins; children of resistance activists affected by chemical toxins; persons recognized by competent authorities as deformed, disabled, or having a reduction in self-reliance in living or labor due to the impact of chemical toxins;
- Aged 35 or older as of the exam date (for continuing education candidates).
