From 2025, is the formula for calculating the high school graduation assessment score for general education and continuing education candidates in Vietnam the same?

Under Article 44 of the Regulations on the high school graduation exam issued together with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 8, 2025), the formula for calculating the high school graduation assessment score in Vietnam is as follows:

Where:

- The high school graduation assessment score includes:

+ Scores of the papers taken by the candidates for graduation assessment, converted to a 10-point scale to calculate the graduation score;

+ The GPA of all years at the upper secondary level (The average of all years) is calculated by the following formula:

Note: 

++ GPA of grade 10, GPA of grade 11, and GPA of grade 12 is the arithmetic mean of all subjects assessed by scores for each respective year.

++ The GPA of each school year and the GPA of all school years are rounded to 2 (two) decimal places.

+ Priority points, extra points if applicable.

Simultaneously, under Article 41 of the Regulation on the high school graduation exam as stipulated in Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, the high school graduation assessment score is as follows:

Thus, according to the old Regulation, there was a separation in the formula for calculating the high school graduation assessment score between general education and continuing education candidates.

However, the Regulation on the high school graduation exam promulgated with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 08, 2025) has officially changed the calculation method for the high school graduation assessment score for general education and continuing education candidates to follow the same formula.

What are the eligibility requirements for high school graduation recognition in Vietnam?

Under Article 45 of the Regulations on the high school graduation exam issued together with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 8, 2025), the eligibility requirements for high school graduation recognition in Vietnam are as follows:

- Candidates eligible to take the high school graduation exam, not subject to the disciplinary annulment of exam results, achieving above 1.0 score in all subjects on a 10-point scale, and having graduation assessment points of at least 5.0, are recognized as high school graduation.

- Candidates eligible to take the high school graduation exam, exempt from all papers in the graduation assessment process as per clause 1 Article 39 of the Regulations on the high school graduation exam issued together with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT are recognized as high school graduation.

What are the regulations on high school graduation recognition in Vietnam?

Under Article 47 of the Regulation on the high school graduation exam promulgated with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 08, 2025), the high school graduation recognition in Vietnam is regulated as follows:

(1) The application for high school graduation recognition in Vietnam includes:

- The information sheet for high school graduation assessment;

- The list of candidates proposed for high school graduation recognition;

- The list and dossier of candidates receiving special treatment, exempted from papers, recognized for graduation due to re-marking or resolving exam application complaints;

- A CD containing exam data;

- Related minutes;

- Other types of dossiers according to the annual guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.

(2) The procedures for high school graduation recognition:

- Within 07 days from the date of the exam results announcement, the Director of the Department of Education and Training approves high school graduation recognition for eligible candidates and is accountable to the Ministry of Education and Training for the high school graduation recognition results of their province;

- After reporting to the Ministry of Education and Training, the Director of the Department of Education and Training announces high school graduation recognition results and notifies high schools to post the list of candidates recognized for high school graduation and issue temporary high school graduation certificates to the candidates;

- Temporary high school graduation certificates are signed by the Principal of the high school where candidates registered for the exam and are valid until official high school diplomas are issued;

- Departments of Education and Training send the list of candidates recognized for high school graduation to the Ministry of Education and Training immediately after the conclusion of the exam for management and monitoring.

Who is eligible to take the High School Graduation Exam in Vietnam from 2025?

Under Clause 1, Article 19 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT Download, the following regulations are set forth:

Eligible candidates include:

- Individuals who have completed the General Education/Continuing Education program in the year of the exam;

- Individuals who have completed the General Education/Continuing Education program but have not graduated in previous years;

- Individuals who already hold a High School Diploma but retake the exam to use the results for enrollment registration;

- Individuals who already hold a Post-secondary Diploma who retake the exam to use the results for enrollment registration.
