What financial support for tuition fees and living expenses do Pedagogy Students Receive from the State in Vietnam?
Based on Article 4 of Decree 116/2020/ND-CP, the support level is defined as follows:
Support Level and Duration
- Support Level:
a) Pedagogy students are given financial support for tuition fees equivalent to the tuition fee rate charged by the teacher training institution they are attending;
b) Pedagogy students receive VND 3.63 million/month to cover living expenses during their study period at the school.
- The duration of financial support for tuition fees and living expenses is determined based on the actual months of study at the school as prescribed but not exceeding 10 months per academic year. In the case of instruction organized by credit-based learning, the teacher training institution may convert the support amount to be suitable for the credit-based study system. The total financial support for the entire course in a credit-based system must not exceed the support amount defined for the course based on the academic year.
As such, pedagogy students are provided with state support for living expenses and tuition fees as follows:
- Tuition Fees: Students are supported for tuition fees equivalent to the tuition fee rate charged by the teacher training institution they are attending;- Living Expenses: VND 3.63 million/month.
The duration of financial support for tuition fees and living expenses for pedagogy students is determined by the actual months of study at the school but does not exceed 10 months per academic year.
In the case of instruction organized by the credit-based system, the teacher training institution may convert the support amount to be suitable for the credit-based system. However, the total financial support for the entire course in this case must not exceed the support amount defined for the course based on the academic year.
Do Pedagogy Students Have to Reimburse their Education Costs if they Do Not Work in the Education Sector within 2 Years after Graduation in Vietnam?
Based on Clause 1, Article 6 of Decree 116/2020/ND-CP, the reimbursement of financial support is regulated as follows:
Reimbursement of Financial Support
- Subjects required to reimburse financial support for tuition fees and living expenses include:
a) Pedagogy students who have benefited from the policy but do not work in the education sector within 2 years from the date of the graduation recognition decision;
b) Pedagogy students who have benefited from the policy and work in the education sector but do not fulfill the required working time as prescribed in Point a, Clause 2 of this Article;
c) Pedagogy students who have benefited from the policy but during the training period switch to another field of study, voluntarily quit, do not complete the training program, or are disciplined with expulsion.
- Subjects not required to reimburse financial support for tuition fees and living expenses include:
a) Within 2 years from the date of the graduation recognition decision, pedagogy students work in the education sector and have a minimum working time equal to twice the training time calculated from the date of recruitment;
b) Pedagogy students after graduation continue to work in the education sector, but not enough time as prescribed in Point a, Clause 2 of this Article and assigned by the competent state agency to work outside the education sector;
c) Pedagogy students after graduation continue to be assigned by the ordering agency, delivery mission, or tendering to higher education training and continue to work in the education sector for the prescribed time as in Point a, Clause 2 of this Article.
Pedagogy students who temporarily suspend their studies or are temporarily suspended from school will not receive support during the suspension or expulsion period.
Pedagogy students who temporarily stop studying due to illness, accidents, repeat courses, repeat a year (no more than once), or stop studying for other reasons not due to disciplinary actions or voluntary quitting, are subjected to being considered by the teacher training institution to continue studying according to regulations, and therefore continue to receive support as regulated in this Decree. However, the support duration must not exceed the maximum time to complete the training program.
Thus, pedagogy students who do not work in the education sector within 2 years after graduation are required to reimburse the financial support for tuition fees and living expenses.
