What is Vietnam's strategic position in Southeast Asia?

Vietnam holds a highly strategic position, considered a bridge between mainland Southeast Asia and maritime Southeast Asia, as well as between China and the Southeast Asian region. This position not only enables Vietnam to connect the Eurasian continent with the Australian continent but also places it near international maritime and aviation routes, facilitating trade and cooperation between countries within and outside the region.

In the Southeast Asian region, Vietnam's strategic position is as follows:

- A bridge between China and Southeast Asia: Vietnam is strategically positioned between China and Southeast Asian countries, which makes our country an important bridge for economic, cultural, and political exchanges between China and countries in the region. Vietnam acts as a "crossroads," assisting China in easily connecting with rapidly developing economies and potential markets within Southeast Asia.

- A bridge between mainland and maritime Southeast Asia: Vietnam, with its borders alongside Laos and Cambodia, connects mainland countries in Southeast Asia with island nations like the Philippines and Malaysia, thereby creating a more comprehensive network of economic, trade, and tourism cooperation. This position enhances connectivity and promotes synchronized development among countries in the region.

- Connecting the Eurasian continent with the Australian continent: Given its central position in Southeast Asia, Vietnam plays a crucial role in connecting Eurasian countries with Australia, forming a significant link for international trade and movement. Vietnam serves as a crossing point between continents, facilitating the transportation of goods and the connection of people through maritime and aviation routes.

- Proximity to international maritime and aviation routes: With a long coastline of 3,260 km, Vietnam lies near the world’s major maritime routes, particularly the South China Sea, where a large number of international vessels navigate. This position helps Vietnam not only thrive economically but also elevate its influence in maritime security. Additionally, Vietnam has major international airports such as Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai, which connect with major cities worldwide, facilitating international travel and trade.

In short, Vietnam holds a particularly strategic position in promoting economic and political exchanges and cooperation between Southeast Asian countries and major global economies. With its central position in the region, Vietnam not only serves as a bridge between countries in the region but also assists in connecting Eurasian countries with Australia, while facilitating trade through international maritime and aviation routes.
