Under the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the orientations to the educational contents of the general education program for 8th Grade in Vietnam are as follows:
- The general education program aims to shape and develop students' qualities and capabilities through educational content in language and literature, mathematics, social science, natural science, technology, informatics, civic education, national defense and security, arts, physical education, and career orientation.
- Each educational content is implemented across all subjects and educational activities, with some subjects and activities playing a core role.
- Based on educational goals and required achievements in qualities and capabilities for each educational phase and level, each subject and activity identifies objectives, requirements for qualities, capabilities, and educational content.
- The fundamental education phase applies comprehensive and integrated education, equipping students with foundational general knowledge, and meeting the strong streaming requirements of post-lower secondary school; the career orientation education phase applies differentiated education, ensuring students gain career access, and prepare for quality post-secondary learning.
- Both the basic education and career orientation education phases have elective subjects; the career orientation phase additionally offers elective subjects and study topics to fulfill aspirations and develop the potential, and strengths of each student.
