Under Section 4 of the Appendix of the General education program in Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the literary competencies required after studying the 8th-grade Literature curriculum are as follows:
- Understand the message, thoughts, feelings, and attitudes of the author in the text; recognize the literary scripts, novels and epic poems, regulated and free verse, tragedy and comedy; the content and form of literary works, literary images;
- Recognize and analyze the effect of some formal elements and artistic methods belonging to each literary genre (the combination of the narrator's voice and character dialogue, point of view, conflict, poetry rules, structure, vocabulary, emotional lyricism; rhetorical methods such as repetition, wordplay, irony, paradox).
- Recognize some general features of the history of Vietnamese literature; understand the impact of literature on one's life.
Thus, after studying the 8th-grade Literature curriculum, students must have the competency to recognize some general features of Vietnamese literary history.
