Where to download the application form for retention of students' academic results? What are the guidelines for completing the application for retention?
Currently, there is no mandatory standard application form for the retention of students' academic results applicable to all universities.
However, most universities have their own form within their regulations or administrative document systems. Students need to contact the training office or visit the university's website to obtain the correct form as required.
If the university does not provide a specific form, students can write their own application following a free format, provided it contains all necessary information. Below is a reference application form for retention:

When may students in Vietnam temporarily leave school and have their academic results retained?
According to Clause 1, Article 15 of the Regulation on undergraduate education issued with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, students may temporarily leave school and have their academic results retained in the following cases:
- The student is conscripted;
- The student is selected to represent Vietnam in an international competition by the competent authority;
- The student is ill, is pregnant or has an accident that requires long-term treatment, which is verified by the competent healthcare facility according to regulations of the Ministry of Health;
- The student takes leave for a personal reason but has attended at least 01 semester in the training institution and is not considered for forced leave from school or discipline.
These are the cases regulated for students to apply for temporary leave and retention of academic results.
Training institution regulations shall provide for conditions, competence and procedures for handling of applications for temporary leave, receipt of returning students and forced leave from school; and retention and recognition of accumulated study results of students who drop out.
Does the students' study duration in Vietnam include a temporary leave of absence?
Regarding the official study duration for students, under Clause 5, Article 2 of the Regulations on Undergraduate Education attached to Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT :

5. maximum study duration limit for students to complete a course shall be stipulated in the training institution regulation but shall not be longer than twice the study duration according to the standard learning plan for the whole course for each mode of study. For students who take bridge programs and whose accumulated credits have been accounted for, maximum study duration limit for them to complete a course shall be determined by deducting the amount of study duration corresponding to the completed academic load from the study duration according to the standard learning plan of the whole course.

2. Duration of temporary leave for personal reason shall be counted towards the full-time study duration provided for in Clause 5 Article 2 of this Regulation.
According to the above regulation, the temporary leave period for personal reasons is included in the official study duration. This can be understood as follows:
- The temporary leave will not extend the total maximum study duration.
- The total official study duration, including the temporary leave, must not exceed 2 times the duration according to the standard study plan for the entire course (according to Clause 5, Article 2 of the Regulation accompanying Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT).
Therefore, the temporary leave period for personal reasons is still included in the total official study duration of the student as per current regulations. However, leave periods for other reasons (e.g., health, military service, or special reasons considered by the university) may be handled differently depending on the training institution's regulations.
