What is the viewpoint of building the curriculum for History and Geography 9?
Based on Section 2 of the Secondary Education Curriculum for History and Geography, issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the History and Geography curriculum at the secondary level (including History and Geography 9) adheres to the regulations of the overall curriculum, while emphasizing several viewpoints as follows:
(1). The curriculum aims to develop in students scientific thinking, perceiving the world as an entirety in both spatial and temporal dimensions based on fundamental knowledge and learning tools of history and geography; thereby forming and developing specific and general competencies, especially the ability to apply knowledge and skills in practice and creativity.
(2). The curriculum inherits and promotes the strengths of the current Secondary Education History and Geography curricula while incorporating experiences from advanced countries. The content ensures comprehensive, foundational, and scientific general knowledge suitable to the psychological and developmental characteristics of students, considering the teaching conditions in Vietnamese schools.
(3). Historical education content is designed in chronological order from prehistoric to ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary times. Within each period, there is an interweaving of world history, regional history, and Vietnamese history. The Geography content flows from general to regional and Vietnamese geography. Great emphasis is placed on selecting themes, connecting knowledge and skills to form and develop student competencies while respecting the scientific nature of history and geography.
(4). The curriculum emphasizes the application of active educational methods, the use of diverse teaching aids, and the diversification of teaching forms and evaluation methods to form and develop students' qualities and competencies.
(5). The curriculum ensures continuity with the History and Geography curricula in primary education and the History and Geography curricula in high school; establishing a coherent connection between grade levels and subjects and activities in the overall secondary education curriculum.
(6). The curriculum is open, allowing flexible implementation according to local conditions and student circumstances (students in difficult areas, students with special needs, etc.).
