What are bonus points for candidates from Region 1 in Vietnam?
Based on point a, clause 1, Article 7 of the university and college admissions regulations for the Preschool Education sector issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:
Priority policy in admissions
1. Region-based priority (according to Appendix I of the Regulations)
a) The priority score for region 1 (KV1) is 0.75 points, rural area 2 (KV2-NT) is 0.5 points, area 2 (KV2) is 0.25 points; area 3 (KV3) is not awarded bonus points;
b) The recruitment area of each candidate is determined by the location of the school where the candidate studied longest during their high school (or intermediate school) period; if the study duration (longest) in the areas is equivalent, it is determined by the area of the school the candidate last attended;

Thus, candidates from region 1 in university admissions are awarded 0.75 points.
* Region 1 includes communes in regions 1, 2, 3 and communes with particularly difficult villages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; particularly difficult communes in coastal and island areas, and border communes in the investment plan of Program 135 according to the regulations of the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam.

Based on point a, clause 2, Article 7 of the university and college admissions regulations for the Preschool Education sector issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:

2. Priority according to policy groups (according to Appendix II of the Regulations)
a) The priority score applied for group UT1 (including subjects 01 to 04) is 2.0 points and for group UT2 (including subjects 05 to 07) is 1.0 point;
b) The priority score for other policy subjects (stipulated in current legal documents) is decided by the Minister of Education and Training;
c) Candidates who fall under multiple policy groups as stipulated in points a, b of this clause are awarded the highest priority score.

Thus, candidates from the policy group UT1 are awarded 2.0 points.
* Policy group UT1 includes:
- Vietnamese citizens who are ethnic minorities with permanent residency for more than 18 months during high school or intermediate school period in Region 1.
- Workers in direct production who have worked continuously for 5 years or more, with at least 2 years being recognized as an exemplary worker by provincial level or higher and awarded a commendation certificate.
- War invalids, sick soldiers, individuals with "Certificates of enjoying policies as war invalids."
- Military personnel; officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted soldiers in the People’s Police assigned to study having served for 12 months or more in Region 1.
- Military personnel; officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted soldiers in the People's Police assigned to study having served for 18 months or more.
- Military personnel; officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted soldiers in the People's Police discharged, recognized as completing active duty service according to regulations.
- Martyr family members;
- Children of war invalids, children of sick soldiers, children of individuals enjoying policies as war invalids with labor reduction capacity of 81% or more;
- Children of resistance fighters exposed to chemical toxins with labor reduction capacity of 81% or more;
- Children of Heroes of the People's Armed Forces; children of Labor Heroes during the resistance;
- Children of resistance activists deformed or disabled due to aftereffects of chemical toxins receiving monthly allowances.
How long can university admission results be deferred for successful candidates in Vietnam?
Based on clause 2, Article 10 of the university and college admissions regulations for the Preschool Education sector issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated regarding the deferral of admission results as follows:
Deferral of admission results
- Candidates with admission notices are entitled to deferral in the following cases:
a) Performing military service or joining youth volunteers immediately in the year of admission according to decisions or orders from the competent authority;
b) Having a severe illness or serious accident that prevents timely enrollment, with medical records and certification from a competent health authority.
2. Candidates eligible as per clause 1 must submit a deferral request along with supporting documents to the educational institution offering enrollment. The maximum deferral period is determined by the educational institution but is not less than 3 years for those specified in point a clause 1 of this Article.
- Upon meeting the conditions to return to study, individuals with deferred results must complete enrollment procedures according to the educational institution's regulations, providing evidence of task completion or recovery from treatment. For cases in clause 1 of this Article with a deferral period of 3 years or more, the educational institution will consider introducing them to preparatory classes before official study.
Thus, the duration for which university admission results can be deferred is determined by the educational institution. For candidates deferring due to military service or joining youth volunteers immediately in the year of admission as ordered by the competent authority, the deferral period is not less than 3 years.
