Based on Subsection 2, Section 4, General Education Program issued by the Minister of Education and Training attached to Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT (amended by clause 1, Article 1 Circular 13/2022/TT-BGDDT):

Each day consists of 1 session, with no more than 5 lessons per session; each lesson lasts 45 minutes. upper secondary schools are encouraged to conduct two sessions per day if conditions allow according to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training.

As per the above regulations, the compulsory subjects in upper secondary school in 2024 will include: Literature; Mathematics; Foreign Language 1; Physical Education; National Defense and Security Education.

The duration of these compulsory subjects in upper secondary school in 2024 is as follows:

- Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language 1: 105 lessons

- Physical Education: 70 lessons

- National Defense and Security Education: 35 lessons

What are regulations on the roadmap of general education program in Vietnam?

According to Article 2 Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the general education program will be implemented as follows:

- From the academic year 2020-2021 for grade 1.

- From the academic year 2021-2022 for grades 2 and 6.

- From the academic year 2022-2023 for grades 3, 7, and 10.

- From the academic year 2023-2024 for grades 4, 8, and 11.

- From the academic year 2024-2025 for grades 5, 9, and 12.

What are regulations on the development of the general education program in Vietnam?

Based on Section 8, General Education Program issued by the Minister of Education and Training attached to Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT (amended by clause 1, Article 1 Circular 13/2022/TT-BGDDT), the general education program will be developed as follows:

- The development of the general education program is a regular activity, which includes evaluation, modification, supplementation, and completion of the program during its implementation.

- Based on the content and requirement of the general education program, the Ministry of Education and Training organizes the development of educational programs for specific groups (gifted students, disabled students, students in difficult circumstances); schools build their own educational plans in a flexible and adaptable way, suitable to the specific conditions and circumstances of the locality, ensuring the goals and quality of education.

- During the implementation, the Ministry of Education and Training organizes field surveys, consults with educational management agencies, schools, management staff, teachers, students, parents, and concerned individuals to evaluate the program. They consider, adjust, and develop new subject programs (if necessary) and guide implementation of adjustments (if any).

What are the objectives of the general education programin Vietnam?

Based on Section 2, General Education Program issued by the Minister of Education and Training attached to Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT (amended by clause 1, Article 1 Circular 13/2022/TT-BGDDT):

- The general education program specifies the goals of general education, helping students master general knowledge, effectively apply learned knowledge and skills in life, engage in lifelong learning, identify appropriate career choices, and develop harmonious social relationships. They should exhibit character, personality, and a rich emotional life, thus leading a meaningful life and contributing positively to the development of the country and humanity.

- The elementary education program helps students form and develop fundamental elements that lay the foundation for harmonious physical and spiritual development, character, and competence;

Focusing primarily on educating personal values, family, community, and necessary habits and disciplines in learning and life.

- The lower secondary education program helps students develop the qualities and competencies formed and developed in elementary school, self-regulate according to societal norms, and utilize active learning methods to refine foundational knowledge and skills. This includes obtaining initial understanding of various industries and career awareness to proceed to upper secondary school, vocational training, or participation in the workforce.

- The upper secondary education program helps students continue to develop essential qualities and competencies needed for workers, consciousness and personality of a citizen, self-learning ability, and lifelong learning awareness, ability to choose careers suitable to their capacity and interests, and conditions and circumstances to continue higher education, vocational training, or participation in the labor force. They should also adapt to changes in the context of globalization and new industrial revolutions.
