Based on Section 5 of the Plan for organizing the Examination and recognizing high school graduation from 2025, issued together with Decision 4068/QD-BGDDT in 2023:

Students are required to take the Literature, Mathematics, and 02 optional subjects among those studied in grade 12 (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Law Education, Information Technology, Technology).

The compulsory subjects for students taking the high school graduation exam in 2025 are Literature and Mathematics. Students will take 4 subjects, with the remaining 2 subjects being optional among the following: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Law Education, Information Technology, Technology.

Additionally, the high school graduation exam will be organized nationwide in a unified manner, at the same time, and in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

What is the expected date for the high school graduation exam in 2025 in Vietnam?

On August 1, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT in 2024 regarding the Time Frame Plan for the academic year 2024 - 2025 for preschool, general education, and continuing education:

Issuing the time frame plan for the academic year 2024 - 2025 for preschool, general education, and continuing education to be applied nationwide as follows:

  1. Schools may start the school year a maximum of 1 week before the opening day. For grade 1, schools may start the school year a maximum of 2 weeks before the opening day.
  2. The opening day will be held on September 5, 2024.
  1. The first semester ends before January 18, 2025, the academic program and the school year ends before May 31, 2025.
  1. Completion of primary education program recognition and junior high school graduation recognition before June 30, 2025.
  1. Completion of admissions for the first grades before July 31, 2025.
  2. The high school graduation exam in 2025 is expected to take place on June 26 and June 27, 2025.
  1. Other national-level exams will be organized following the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Thus, according to the time frame plan for the 2024 - 2025 academic year, the Ministry of Education and Training expects the high school graduation exam in 2025 to be held on June 26 and June 27, 2025.

What compulsory subjects do high school students in Vietnam have to take?

In Section 4 of the general education program issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT:

1. Basic education stage

1.1. Primary level

a) Educational content

Compulsory subjects and educational activities: Vietnamese; Mathematics; Ethics; Foreign Language 1 (for grades 3, 4, 5); Natural and Social Science (for grades 1, 2, 3); History and Geography (for grades 4, 5); Science (for grades 4, 5); Information Technology and Technology (for grades 3, 4, 5); Physical Education; Arts (Music, Fine Arts); Experiential activities.

Optional subjects: Ethnic minority language, Foreign Language 1 (for grades 1, 2).

b) Educational duration

Conducting two sessions of schooling per day, each day scheduling no more than 7 lessons; each lesson is 35 minutes. Educational institutions without the conditions to organize two sessions of schooling per day implement the education plan according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
