What is time for the quality assessment exam for grade 10 Literature at the beginning of school year in Vietnam?
On August 1, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024 on the Framework of the time plan for the school year 2024-2025.
The Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that schools start at the earliest one week before the opening ceremony. For grade 1, they can start two weeks earlier than the opening ceremony.
Today is August 31, 2024, so there are 4 days left until the new school year will start on September 5, 2024.
Therefore, at the beginning of the new school year, some schools will organize quality assessment exams to serve as a basis for building and implementing plans to improve educational quality tailored to students in the school year.
Thus, it can be deduced that the quality assessment exam for Grade 10 is an initial knowledge test for students at the beginning of high school, which means for Grade 10 students at the start of high school.
What are methods of assessment of Grade 10 Literature in Vietnam?
Based on subitem 4 of Section VII in the General Education Program for Literature, issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the assessment for Grade 10 literature will be carried out as follows:
- The assessment in Literature is conducted in two ways: continuous assessment and periodic assessment.
- Continuous assessment is performed constantly throughout the teaching process, organized by the subject teacher; the assessment forms include: teacher’s evaluation of students, students evaluating each other, and students self-assessment.
- For continuous assessment, teachers can rely on daily observations and notes about students, responses to questions, presentations, test writings, literary analysis and feedback writing, project collections, research assignments, etc.
- Periodic assessment is conducted near the end or at the end of a learning period (end of a semester, end of a school year) by educational institutions to manage teaching activities, ensure educational quality, and serve the development of the curriculum and study materials.
- Periodic assessment is often through written exams or tests. The test/exam may require essay forms (one or multiple questions); it can combine objective multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions to assess reading comprehension and essay writing on a given topic from the learned literature.
- Oral tests can be used to assess speaking and listening if necessary and feasible.
- For end-year and end-level assessments, it's necessary to innovate the assessment methods (test structure, question format, difficulty levels,...); use and exploit literary texts that ensure assessment requirements of student competence, overcoming the situation of memorizing or copying available materials; avoid reusing learned texts to accurately assess reading comprehension, analysis, and literary appreciation abilities.
- No matter the assessment form, it must ensure students can express and display their qualities, linguistic abilities, literary competence, figurative and logical thinking, own thoughts, and feelings without copying; encourage personalized and creative writing.
- Students need to be guided to understand and grasp the objective, methods, and criteria used to evaluate these qualities and competencies.
