What is the general objective of the general educational program for English in Vietnam?
According to Section III of the general educational program for English issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the general objective of the general educational program for English is stipulated as follows:
- The general educational program for English helps students acquire a new communication tool, forming and developing their communication ability in English through listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Upon completing the general educational program, students can communicate at Level 3 of the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam, laying the foundation for students to use English in learning and forming lifelong learning habits to become global citizens in the integration period.
- The general educational program for English helps students gain a general understanding of the country, people, and culture of some English-speaking countries and other countries around the world; fostering a positive attitude and affectionate feelings towards the countries, people, cultures, and languages of these countries.
Additionally, the general educational program for English contributes to forming and developing necessary qualities and competencies for students as future workers: a sense of work responsibility, orientation, and suitable career choice alignment with abilities, preferences, and adaptability in the context of the new industrial revolution.
What is the design structure of the content of the general educational program for English in Vietnam?
Under Section V of the general educational program for English issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the design structure of the content of the general educational program for English is defined as follows:
The teaching content in the general educational program for English is designed in a multi-component structure, including:
(i) A system of themes (general), and specific topics.
(ii) Communication capabilities related to themes and topics.
(iii) A list of linguistic knowledge (phonetics, vocabulary, grammar).
Cultural content is taught by integrated into the system of themes and topics.
