Under Article 43 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDĐT (effective from February 8, 2025), the cases eligible for extra points in the high school graduation exam are as follows:

Students participating in the following competitions and activities during their upper secondary education can receive extra points for high school graduation assessment:

- Winning individual prizes in the national excellent student selection exam: Winning first, second, or third prize in the national exam or first place at the provincial level will be awarded 2.0 points; consolation prize in the national exam or second place at the provincial level will receive 1.5 points; third place at the provincial level will receive 1.0 point;

- Winning individual and team prizes in laboratory practice exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology; performing arts; sports; national defense education competitions; scientific and technical contests; and international letter-writing competitions co-organized by the Education sector with specialized agencies at the provincial level or above.

+ For individual prizes: Winning first, second, or third prize at the national level or first place at the provincial level or Gold Medal will be awarded 2.0 points; consolation prize at the national level or fourth prize in national science and technical contests or second place at the provincial level or Silver Medal receives 1.5 points; third place at the provincial level or Bronze Medal receives 1.0 point;

+ For team prizes: extra points are only awarded for national prizes; the number of players, athletes, and performers in the team prizes is regulated specifically by the Organizing Committee of each competition; the level of extra points awarded to individuals in team prizes is implemented as for individual prizes stipulated at this point.

- Students winning multiple different prizes in various competitions/exams will only be entitled to one extra point level corresponding to the highest prize type.

What is the formula for calculating the high school graduation assessment score in Vietnam?

Under Article 44 of the Regulations on the high school graduation exam issued together with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 8, 2025), the formula for calculating the high school graduation assessment score in Vietnam is as follows:

- The high school graduation assessment score includes:

+ Scores of the papers taken by the candidates for graduation assessment, converted to a 10-point scale to calculate the graduation score;

+ The GPA of all years at the upper secondary level (The average of all years) is calculated by the following formula:

Note: 

++ GPA of grade 10, GPA of grade 11, and GPA of grade 12 is the arithmetic mean of all subjects assessed by scores for each respective year.

++ The GPA of each school year and the GPA of all school years are rounded to 2 (two) decimal places.

+ Priority points, extra points if applicable.

What is the common process for marking written papers in Vietnam?

Under Article 33 of the High School Graduation Exam Regulations issued with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT (effective from February 8, 2025), the common process for marking written papers in Vietnam is as follows:

- Marking shall follow guidance on marking, answers, and the marking scale of the Ministry of Education and Training; papers are scored on a 10-point scale; the decimal of the total score of the entire paper is rounded to 2 (two) decimal places; each exam is scored in two independent rounds by two different exam markers from two different essay Marking Teams;

- The Secretariat delivers the masked exam folders and marking sheets to the Chief Marker of the Marking Team;

- The Chief Marker organizes a briefing on the Exam Regulations, discusses the answers, guides marking for all Head of Marking Team and markers, and organizes a joint marking of at least 10 (ten) written papers; then organizes the marking process in two independent rounds at separate marking rooms. Particularly for Exam Councils with 30,000 (thirty thousand) candidates or more, the Chief Marker or the Head of the Marking Team is authorized to organize joint marking according to each Marking Team or group of Marking Teams;

- The delivery of exam folders to markers is conducted by drawing lots from cards. Upon receiving the exam folders, markers need to check the seals, check the number, and condition of the exams/sheets in the folders, and if any issues arise, report immediately to the Chief Marker (or Head of the Marking Team) for timely coordination with the Secretariat of the Exam Council to address them;

- Members of the Secretariat serving at the Marking Board are assigned to work in a separate, independent area from the marking rooms/areas;

- Upon completing the assigned exam folder, markers recount all exams/sheets in the folder; check the information on the exam folder (exam subject, bag number/code, number of exams, number of sheets) before handing it over to the Chief Marker or the authorized Head of the Marking Team;

- At the end of each marking session:

+ Chief Marker or the authorized Head of the Marking Team delivers the exam folders to the Secretary of the Exam Council; during the handover, the exams/sheets must be counted, information on the exam folder checked, and sealed, with the signature of the Secretary of the Exam Council and Chief Marker (or authorized Head of the Marking Team); exam folders not yet scored are sealed by markers and handed over to Chief Marker or the authorized Head of the Marking Team to be delivered to the Secretary of the Exam Council for safekeeping until the next marking session begins.

+ The Secretary of the Exam Council must report the status, marking progress, and grade statistics according to the code of each exam folder to the Head of the Marking Board to check and promptly report to the President of the Exam Council.

- Any abnormal situation, especially during marking and marking results, must be immediately reported to the National Steering Committee.
