What are the forms of assessment for English subjects for secondary school students in Vietnam?
At Article 5 Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the forms of assessment are specified as follows:

a) Teachers use oral or written forms to comment on students' performance of training and learning tasks; comment on students' progress, outstanding strengths, and main limitations in the training and learning process; evaluate students' training and learning results.
b) Students use oral or written forms to self-comment on their performance of training and learning tasks, progress, outstanding strengths, and main limitations.

a) Teachers use scores to evaluate students' training and learning results.

- forms of assessment for subjects
a) Assessment by comments for the following subjects: Physical Education, Art, Music, Fine Arts, Local Education Content, Experiential Activities, Career Orientation; the learning results of these subjects are assessed by comments according to one of two levels: Pass, Fail.
b) Assessment by comments combined with scoring for subjects in the General Education Program, except for the subjects specified at point a of this clause; the learning results of these subjects are assessed by scores on a 10-point scale, and if other scales are used, they must be converted to a 10-point scale. The assessment score is a whole number or a decimal taken to the first decimal place after rounding.
Thus, only the subjects Physical Education, Art, Music, Fine Arts, Local Education Content, and Experiential Activities, Career Orientation are assessed by comments.
Therefore, the assessment form for the English subject will be a combination of comments and scoring.
How to calculate the average score of English for secondary school students in Vietnam?
Based on Article 9 Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the method to calculate the average score of English for a semester and the full year for secondary school students is as follows:
- The average score of a subject in a semester (hereinafter abbreviated as ĐTBmhk – Dtbmhk) for each subject is calculated as follows:
TĐĐGtx: Total frequent assessment scores.
- The average subject score for the whole year (abbreviated as ĐTBmcn – Dtbmcn) is calculated as follows:
ĐTBmhk1: Average subject score for Semester 1.
ĐTBmhk2: Average subject score for Semester 2.
