Pursuant to Clause 2, Article 10 of the Regulations on work policies for general education teachers issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT, as amended and supplemented by Clause 10, Article 1 of Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT, stipulating the policies on the reduction of teaching hours for certain individuals as follows:
Regime of reducing teaching hours for other subjects
- Teachers recruited via first-time work contracts are entitled to a reduction of 2 periods per week.
- Female teachers with children under 12 months old are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week (for upper secondary school and lower secondary school teachers) and 4 periods per week (for primary school teachers).
2a. Female teachers at pre-university schools with children under 12 months old are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.
Thus, lower secondary school teachers with children under 12 months old are entitled to a reduction in teaching hours as follows:
- Upper secondary school and lower secondary school teachers are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.

How many periods are lower secondary school homeroom teachers in Vietnam entitled to a reduction?
Pursuant to Article 8 of the Regulations on work policies for general education teachers issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT, as amended and supplemented by Clause 8, Article 1 of Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT, stipulating the policies on the reduction of teaching hours for teachers concurrently performing specialized tasks:

- Homeroom teachers at the primary level are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week, at the lower secondary school and upper secondary school levels are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods per week.
- Homeroom teachers at ethnic boarding general school levels (lower secondary school and upper secondary school) are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods per week. Homeroom teachers at specialized schools, semi-boarding schools are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods per week. Homeroom teachers at schools or classes for disabled or handicapped persons are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.
2a. Homeroom teachers at pre-university schools are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.
- Teachers concurrently responsible for subject-specific classrooms are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per subject per week.
- Teachers concurrently responsible for school-wide cultural, gymnastic activities, responsible for school gardens, workshops, equipment rooms, or libraries (if these tasks do not have dedicated staff) are entitled to a reduction of 2 to 3 periods per week, depending on the workload, as decided by the principal.
- Subject group leaders are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.
5a. Deputy subject leaders are entitled to a reduction of 1 period per week.
5b. Teachers concurrently serving as heads of functional departments at pre-university schools are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week;
Teachers concurrently serving as deputy heads of functional departments at pre-university schools are entitled to a reduction of 1 period per week.
Thus, lower secondary school homeroom teachers are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods per week.
Additionally, other cases include:
- Primary school homeroom teachers are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.
- upper secondary school homeroom teachers are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods per week.
- Homeroom teachers at ethnic boarding general school levels (lower secondary school and upper secondary school) are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods per week.
- Homeroom teachers at specialized schools, semi-boarding schools are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods per week.
- Homeroom teachers at schools or classes for disabled or handicapped persons are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.
- Homeroom teachers at pre-university schools are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods per week.

- The working time of primary school teachers in a school year is 42 weeks, including:
+ 35 weeks spent on teaching and educational activities as per the academic year schedule.
+ 05 weeks for studying and enhancing professional skills.
+ 01 week for preparing for the new school year.
+ 01 week for summarizing the school year.
- The working time of pre-university school teachers is 42 weeks, including:
+ 28 weeks spent on teaching and educational activities as per the academic year schedule.
+ 12 weeks for studying, enhancing professional skills, developing materials, conducting scientific research, and participating in other activities as per the academic year schedule.
+ 01 week for preparing for the new school year.
+ 01 week for summarizing the school year.
- The working time of lower secondary school and upper secondary school teachers in a school year is 42 weeks, including:
+ 37 weeks spent on teaching and educational activities as per the academic year schedule.
+ 03 weeks for studying and enhancing professional skills.
+ 01 week for preparing for the new school year.
+ 01 week for summarizing the school year.
Additionally, according to Article 3 of Circular 48/2011/TT-BGDDT, the working time in a year for preschool teachers is 42 weeks, including:
- 35 weeks for nurturing, caring, and educating children (collectively referred to as teaching).
- 04 weeks for studying and enhancing professional skills.
- 02 weeks for preparing for the new school year.
