Application form for re-enrollment for students in Vietnam
Current laws do not provide a specific form for re-enrollment applications for students at all levels. Students wishing to re-enroll can write their own application. The re-enrollment application must contain full details such as the student's full name, birth year, the school they wish to re-enroll in, etc.

What are the conditions for students in Vietnam to re-enroll?
Based on Clause 2, Article 4 of the Regulations on school transfer and re-enrollment for students in lower secondary schools and upper secondary schools issued alongside Decision 51/2002/QD-BGDDT, the conditions for re-enrollment are stipulated as follows:
Subjects for school transfer and re-enrollment.
- School transfer:
a) Students transferring residences along with their parents or guardians.
b) Students in exceptionally difficult family circumstances or for valid reasons must transfer schools.
- Re-enrollment:
Students re-enrolling after a break but still within the age limit for each school level.
Therefore, the condition for students to re-enroll, according to the regulations, is that they must still be within the age limit for each school level.
What are the application documents and procedures for student re-enrollment in Vietnam?
Based on Article 6 of the Regulations on school transfer and re-enrollment for students in lower secondary schools and upper secondary schools issued alongside Decision 51/2002/QD-BGDDT, the application documents, and procedures for re-enrollment are stipulated as follows:
Re-enrollment documents and procedures.
- Re-enrollment documents.
a) Re-enrollment application signed by the student.
b) The original class or school-level academic record.
c) Notarized copy of the graduation certificate from the lower school level.
d) Confirmation from the local government authority on compliance with state policies and laws.
- Re-enrollment procedures.
a) Re-enrollment at the former school:
The principal allows enrollment after reviewing the documents.
b) Re-enrollment at another school:
Additional documents are required, and the procedures are the same as for transferring students.
c) Re-enrollment at the start of upper secondary school:
The Director of the Department of Education and Training considers and decides based on the student's entrance exam results before the break.
- Re-enrollment is carried out during the summer before the start of the new school year.
Thus, the application documents and procedures for student re-enrollment are as follows:
* Regarding documents, include:
- Re-enrollment application signed by the student;
- The original academic record of the class or school level already attended;
- Notarized copy of the graduation certificate from the lower school level;
- Confirmation from the local government authority on compliance with state policies and laws.
* Regarding the re-enrollment procedures:
- For students re-enrolling at the former school: The principal allows enrollment after reviewing the documents.
- For students re-enrolling at a different school: Additional documents are required, and procedures are the same as for transferring students. According to Article 5 of the Regulations on school transfer and re-enrollment for students in lower secondary schools and upper secondary schools issued alongside Decision 51/2002/QD-BGDDT amended by Clause 1, Article 2 of Circular 50/2021/TT-BGDDT, and phrases replaced by Clause 2, Article 2 Circular 50/2021/TT-BGDDT, additional documents, and transfer procedures are as follows:
+ Documents:
++ School transfer application signed by the parent or guardian.
++ Academic record (original).
++ Entrance acceptance certificate to the start upper secondary school level specifying the type of school (public or private).
++ School transfer introduction letter issued by the principal of the sending school.
++ School transfer introduction letter issued by the Head of the Department of Education and Training (for secondary level) or the Director of the Department of Education and Training (for upper secondary school level) where the transfer originates if transferring from another province or city.
+ Procedures:
++ For lower secondary school students:
(i). Transferring within the same province or city: The principal of the receiving school accepts the documents and resolves according to the regulations of the Director of the Department of Education and Training.
(ii). Transferring from another province or city: The receiving Department of Education and Training accepts and refers the student to a school according to their residence, accompanied by reviewed documents.
++ For upper secondary school students:
(i). Transferring within the same province or city: The principal of the receiving school accepts the documents and resolves according to the regulations of the Director of the Department of Education and Training.
(ii). Transferring from another province or city: The receiving Department of Education and Training reviews the documents and refers the student to a school.
School transfers are carried out after the end of the first semester or during the summer before the start of the new school year. Exceptional cases regarding the timing will be considered and decided by the Head of the Department of Education and Training (for secondary level) or the Director of the Department of Education and Training (for upper secondary school level) of the receiving location.
- For re-enrollment at the start of upper secondary school: The Director of the Department of Education and Training considers and decides based on the student's entrance exam results before the break.
Note: Re-enrollment must be done during the summer before the start of the new school year.
