When will universities in Vietnam consider additional admissions?
Based on the Plan for University Admissions and Preschool Education College Admissions in 2024 issued along with Decision 1139/QD-BGDDT in 2024:

Thus, the time for universities to announce additional admission periods will start from August 28, 2024.

Are students who win consolation prizes in the National Excellent Student Selection Exam in Vietnam eligible for direct admission?
According to Article 8 of the University Admissions Regulation and Preschool Education College Admissions Regulation issued along with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, the provisions on candidates eligible for direct admission and priority admission are as follows:
Candidates Eligible for Direct Admission and Priority Admission
- Labor Heroes, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, and National Emulation Soldiers are eligible for direct admission to the sectors and programs specified by the training institutions.
- Candidates with high achievements in national or international exams, competitions, and tournaments organized or delegated by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism are eligible for direct admission in the year of high school graduation (or intermediate graduation) to sectors suited to the exam subjects, topics, or professional skills or sports they competed in or won awards; specifically in the following cases:
a) Candidates who win first, second, or third prizes in national, international exams for excellent students, or national, international science, and technology competitions organized or delegated by the Ministry of Education and Training; awards must have been won within three years leading to the direct admission selection period;
b) Candidates who win official awards in international art competitions in singing, dancing, music, and fine arts recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; awards must have been won within four years leading to the direct admission selection period;
c) Candidates who are part of the national team competing in official international tournaments validated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, including: World Championships, World Cups, Olympic Games, Asian Games (ASIAD), Asian Championships, Asian Cups, Southeast Asian Championships, Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), ASEAN Cups; awards must have been won within four years leading to the direct admission selection period;
d) Candidates who win first, second, or third prizes in ASEAN Skills Competitions and WorldSkills Competitions delegated by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs; awards must have been won within three years leading to the direct admission selection period.

5. Training institutions may define other forms of priority admission (eligible for priority admission in the year of high school graduation or intermediate graduation) for the following cases:
a) Candidates specified in clauses 1 and 2 of this Article applying for sectors based on their preference (without using the direct admission priority);
b) Candidates who win consolation prizes in the National Excellent Student Selection Exam; candidates who win fourth prizes in national science and technology competitions applying for sectors related to the subjects or topics they competed in and won awards; awards must have been won within three years leading to the priority admission selection period;
c) Candidates who win gold, silver, or bronze medals in national sports competitions held annually and candidates recognized as national masters by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training applying for related sports sectors; awards must have been won within four years leading to the priority admission selection period;
d) Candidates who win official awards in national professional art competitions in singing, dancing, music, and fine arts applying for related arts sectors; awards must have been won within four years leading to the priority admission selection period;
e) Candidates who win first, second, or third prizes in ASEAN Skills Competitions and WorldSkills Competitions applying for related sectors of the skills they competed in and won awards; awards must have been won within three years leading to the priority admission selection period.
- Training institutions must specifically define and publish in their admission plans, the objects, targets, criteria, scope, and programs for direct admission and priority admission.
Thus, students who win consolation prizes in the National Excellent Student Selection Exam are not automatically eligible for direct university admission. However, if the higher education institution defines other forms of priority admission, they may include students winning consolation prizes in the National Excellent Student Selection Exam as eligible for priority admission.
