Are students required to competently write a narrative essay after completing the Grade-6 Literature program in Vietnam?
Under Section 4 of the general education program for the Literature subject, issued together with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the required outcomes for lower secondary level in Grade 6 Literature include:
Being able to apply Vietnamese linguistic knowledge along with personal experiences and reasoning skills to understand texts; read texts by type and kind; and comprehend the explicit and implicit contents of texts.
Identifying and initiating the analysis and evaluation of the content and prominent expressive features of texts; Being able to compare one text with another, and relate texts to personal life experiences, thereby forming a personal perspective, thinking, and enriching spiritual life.
In Grades 6 and 7: Being able to write narrative, descriptive, and expressive essays; mastering initial skills in writing argumentative, explanatory, and practical essays.
In Grades 8 and 9: Being able to write complete narrative, argumentative, and explanatory essays, following the steps and integrating different expressive methods.
Writing narrative texts focusing on creatively recounting stories that have been read, witnessed, or participated in; imagined stories incorporating descriptive and expressive elements;
Presenting ideas and emotions clearly; displaying confidence when speaking before an audience; using appropriate language, gestures, and expressions; narrating coherently the stories that have been read and heard; sharing personal emotions, attitudes, experiences, and ideas on discussed topics; discussing opinions about read and heard issues; explaining a subject or process; knowing how to appropriately converse according to the purpose, subject, and communication context; using images, symbols, charts, etc., to present issues effectively.
Listening with an appropriate attitude and summarizing content; identifying and initially evaluating the arguments and evidence used by the speaker; recognizing the speaker's emotions; effectively responding to what has been heard.
Thus, under the above regulations, students in Vietnam are required to competently write a narrative essay after completing the Grade-6 Literature program.

What are the regulations regarding the Grade 6 Literature textbooks in Vietnam?

Must the content of Grade 6 textbooks be suitable for practical reality in Vietnam?
According to the stipulations in Article 5 of the standards and procedures for development and revision of textbooks; standards for textbook developers and organization and operation of the National Textbook Appraisal Council issued along with Circular 33/2017/TT-BGDDT, the contents of textbooks in Vietnam must comply with the following criteria:
- The contents of textbooks must present accurately and adequately the contents of the subject’s program or the educational activity; ensure the basic, scientific and practical characteristics and be consistent with the reality of Vietnam.
- The terms, concepts, definitions, figures, events, images used in textbooks shall be accurate, objective, consistent and suitable for students’ ages; the cited figures, events, images shall have clear sources.
- New scientific achievements relating to the subject's program, educational activities shall be updated on the textbook to meet the requirements of international integration and the objectives of the subject’s program and educational activity.
-The contents of national sovereignty, human rights, children’s rights, gender equality, sustainable development, environment protection, adaptation to climate change shall be presented properly.
Furthermore, the textbook development rules must comply with Article 3 of the standards and procedures for the development and revision of textbooks; standards for textbook developers and organization and operation of the National Textbook Appraisal Council issued together with Circular 33/2017/TT-BGDDT, as follows:
1. Comply with the guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam and compliant with the Constitution and laws of Vietnam.
2. Specify targets, contents, methods of education and evaluation of general education results; ensure the transferability among different levels, subjects and educational activities.
3. Be appropriate for conditions of Vietnam and consistent with the global trends in education, and ensure the interests of students.
At the same time, under Article 5 of the standards and procedures for the development and revision of textbooks; standards for textbook developers and organization and operation of the National Textbook Appraisal Council issued along with Circular 33/2017/TT-BGDDT on textbook contents:
- The contents of textbooks must present accurately and adequately the contents of the subject’s program or the educational activity; ensure the basic, scientific and practical characteristics and be consistent with the reality of Vietnam.
- The terms, concepts, definitions, figures, events, images used in textbooks shall be accurate, objective, consistent and suitable for students’ ages; the cited figures, events, images shall have clear sources.
- New scientific achievements relating to the subject's program, educational activities shall be updated on the textbook to meet the requirements of international integration and the objectives of the subject’s program and educational activity.

Thus, the development of textbook content in general or Grade 6 Literature textbooks in particular must ensure conformity with the reality of Vietnam.
