Will students winning the third prize in the national excellent student selection exam qualify for direct admission to university in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Point a, Clause 2, Article 8 of the University Admission Regulations, Preschool Education College Admission Regulations, issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT:

Subjects for Direct Admission and Priority Admission

1. Labor Heroes, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, and National Emulation Soldiers are directly admitted into the fields and programs prescribed by the training institutions.

2. Candidates with high achievements in national or international exams, competitions, tournaments organized or nominated by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, are directly admitted in the graduation year of High School (or graduation of intermediate level) into fields appropriate to the exam subjects, topics, or competition, specifically in the following cases:

a) Candidates winning first, second, or third prize in the national or international Excellent Student Competition or national or international science and technology competition organized or nominated by the Ministry of Education and Training; the time of winning the prize must not exceed 3 years from the time of direct admission consideration;

b) Candidates winning official prizes in international art competitions in singing, dancing, music, and fine arts recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; the time of winning the prize must not exceed 4 years from the time of direct admission consideration;

c) Candidates participating in national teams and competing in official international tournaments confirmed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism including: World Championship, World Cup, Olympic Games, Asian Games (ASIAD), Asian Championship, Asian Cup, Southeast Asian Championship, Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Southeast Asian Cup; the time of winning the prize must not exceed 4 years from the time of direct admission consideration;

d) Candidates winning first, second, or third prize in ASEAN regional vocational skill competitions and international vocational skill competitions nominated by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs; the time of winning the prize must not exceed 3 years from the time of direct admission consideration.

Thus, candidates who win third prize in the national Excellent Student Competition are eligible for direct admission to universities in a field appropriate to the competition subject.

Which candidates in Vietnam are eligible for supplementary admission?

Pursuant to Clause 4, Article 21 of the University Admission Regulations, Preschool Education College Admission Regulations, issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT:

Organization of Registration and Supplementary Admission

1. Based on the admission quotas and the number of candidates who have confirmed admission into the fields and programs, the admission council of the training institution shall consider and decide on supplementary admission rounds. The training institution shall announce the plan, method, and form of registration for supplementary admission rounds; admission conditions for fields and programs according to each admission method, but not lower than the conditions of the previous admission round.

2. Candidates who have not yet been admitted or have been admitted but have not confirmed enrollment anywhere can register for supplementary admission rounds according to the plan and instructions of the training institution.

3. After each admission round, the training institution shall announce on its electronic information page the admission scores (and additional conditions, if any) into fields, programs according to the admission methods; allow candidates to check their individual admission results; send admission notices and instructions for admitted candidates to enroll.

Thus, candidates who have not yet been admitted or have been admitted but have not confirmed enrollment anywhere can register for supplementary admission rounds according to the plan and instructions of the training institution.

What is the time for supplementary admission in Vietnam?

According to Official Dispatch 1957/BGDDT-GDDH year 2024 guiding university admission and preschool education college admission:

From August 28, 2024, to December 2024, candidates with needs for supplementary admission rounds of a training institution shall follow the DAS posted on the training institution's admission information page (if the training institution admits supplementary admission). Admitted candidates who have confirmed enrollment are not eligible for supplementary admission, except in cases where the head of the training institution allows for non-enrollment.

The supplementary admission period is from August 28, 2024, to December 2024.

Candidates with needs for supplementary admission rounds shall follow the admission plan of the training institution, which is posted on the admission information page (if the training institution admits supplementary admission).
