What Vietnamese knowledge does the 7th-grade Literature curriculum cover?
Under subsection 2 of Section 5 in the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the 7th-grade Literature curriculum covers the following Vietnamese knowledge:
- Proverbs and idioms: characteristics and functions
- Terminologies: characteristics and functions
- Meanings of some common Sino-Vietnamese elements (e.g., quốc, gia) and meanings of words containing these elements (e.g., quốc thể, gia cảnh)
- Context and the meaning of words in context
- Numerals, adverbs: characteristics and functions
- Main components and adverbial components in sentences: expanding main components and adverbs with phrases
- Usage of ellipses (in cooperation with commas, indicating many similar items not yet listed; showing incomplete speech or hesitation, interruption; slowing down the sentence's rhythm, preparing for the appearance of a word representing a sudden or humorous, ironic content)
- Rhetorical devices of exaggeration, understatement: characteristics and effects
- Coherence and flow of a text: characteristics and functions
- Types of text and genres
+ Narrative text: a narrative essay about actual events related to characters and historical events
+ Expressive text: an expressive essay; four-syllable, five-syllable poetry; a paragraph capturing emotions after reading a four or five-syllable poem.

Who will select 7th-grade Literature textbooks in Vietnam?
Clause 1, Article 32 of the Education Law 2019 regulates general education textbooks as follows:
Textbooks of general education
1. Textbooks of general education are regulated as follows:
a) Textbooks must implement programmes of general education, concretizing the requirements on educational objectives and contents, on students’ quality and capacity as defined in programmes of general education; direct teaching methods and methods of assessing and evaluating education quality; contents and formats of textbooks shall not carry prejudices based on ethnicity, religion, profession, gender, age and social status; textbooks may be in the printed, Braille or electronic forms.
b) Each subject shall have one or several textbooks; implement private sector involvement in textbook compilation; textbook publication shall be in compliance with the law;
c) Provincial People’s Committees shall decide selection of textbooks for consistent use in institutions of general education in their localities as regulated by the Minister of Education and Training.
d) Local educational materials shall be designed by provincial People’s Committees to meet the needs and characteristics of their localities, be appraised by provincial review councils for appraising and approved by the Minister of Education and Training.
