What are the required literary competencies for 5th-grade students in Vietnam?

Under the General Education Program for Literature issued under Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the required literary competencies for 5th-grade students in Vietnam are as follows:

- Be able to read literary texts expressively; retell and summarize the main content of stories or poems; evaluate the characters, events, and the author's attitude and emotions in the text;

- Recognize time and place, some types of poetic rhyme and rhythm, beautiful and unique words, images, and the effects of rhetorical devices such as personification and comparison.

- Understand the meaning or lessons drawn from the text. Be able to write a paragraph or story that describes emotions and demonstrates the ability to relate, imagine, and create.

When are 5th-grade students in Vietnam eligible to receive certificates of achievement?

Under Clause 1, Article 13 of the Regulations on assessing primary school students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, 5th-grade students are commended in the following cases:

1) End-of-year commendation:

- Award Excellent student title for student achieving Excellent completion;

- Award Student with good completion in study and training title for students achieving Good completion and earning excellent achievement in at least 1 subject or show clear development in at least 1 trait or capacity and receive recognition by the whole class.

2) Irregular commendation: students earning sudden achievements in school years.
