According to the General Education Program issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the required literary competencies for 5th-grade students in Vietnam are as follows:
- Know how to read literature expressively; retell, summarize the main content of stories or poems; comment on the characters, events, and the attitudes and feelings of the author in the text.
- Recognize the time and place, some types of poetic rhymes, rhythm, beautiful, unique words, images, and the effects of personification and comparison metaphors. Understand the meaning or lesson drawn from the text.
- Be able to write narrative and descriptive essays that express emotions and imaginative abilities.
When are 5th-grade students in Vietnam eligible to receive certificates of achievement?
Under Clause 1, Article 13 of the Regulations on assessing primary school students issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, 5th-grade students are commended in the following cases:
1) End-of-year commendation:
- Award Excellent student title for student achieving Excellent completion;
- Award Student with good completion in study and training title for students achieving Good completion and earning excellent achievement in at least 1 subject or show clear development in at least 1 trait or capacity and receive recognition by the whole class.
2) Irregular commendation: students earning sudden achievements in school years.
