Below are the sample presentations showing opinions on a social Issue under the speaking and listening section in the 8th-grade Literature curriculum in Vietnam:
Sample 1 Topic: Environmental Protection – Responsibility of Each Individual Dear teachers and fellow students! The environment is the common home of all of us. However, at present, environmental pollution has become a pressing issue globally. Plastic waste, industrial area smoke, water pollution... are causing the Earth to become increasingly polluted, posing a serious threat to human health and the ecosystem. The main cause of this situation stems from us humans. We dispose of millions of tons of waste every day, exhaust natural resources heedlessly, and are indifferent to the consequences we cause. Without prompt measures, our planet will suffer unforeseen consequences such as climate change, severe natural disasters, and biodiversity deterioration. So, what can we do to protect the environment? First, each individual needs to raise awareness of preserving the environment, not carelessly littering, limiting the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic items. We should also conserve energy, plant more trees, and participate in environmental protection activities. Particularly, education on environmental protection needs to be enhanced so everyone can be aware of their responsibility. Environmental protection is not just anyone's responsibility but the duty of all of us. Let us act together to preserve the green for this planet, for a green - clean - beautiful future! Thank you, teachers and fellow students, for listening! |
Sample 2 Topic: School Violence – A Wake-up Call Dear teachers and fellow students! Currently, school violence is becoming a concerning issue in society. Instances of students being bullied, abused on social media, or isolated in school are increasingly occurring, leaving serious physical and mental consequences. The causes of school violence come from many sides. Some students tend to use violence due to family influence, violent films, or a lack of concern and education from schools. Additionally, some choose to stay silent when witnessing their peers being bullied, inadvertently aiding the continuation of violent behaviors. The effects of school violence are severe. It not only causes physical harm but also leaves enduring mental scars on the victim's soul. Many students fall into depression, lose faith in life, and unfortunate cases may occur. So how can we prevent school violence? Firstly, we need to raise awareness and boldly speak up when witnessing violence instead of staying silent. Schools and families need to pay more attention to students, educating them about kindness, tolerance, and conflict resolution skills peacefully. Each student should also learn to control their emotions and respect their peers. School violence is an issue that cannot be taken lightly. Each of us needs to join hands to push it back, making schools truly safe, healthy, and full of love. Thank you, teachers and fellow students, for listening! |
Sample 3 Topic: Social Media Abuse – A Double-Edged Sword Dear teachers and fellow students! In the era of technology 4.0, social media has become an indispensable part of life. Facebook, TikTok, Instagram help us connect, learn, entertain, and quickly update news. However, besides these benefits, the abuse of social media is causing many negative impacts, especially on young people. Many young people spend hours surfing the net, posting, watching videos, forgetting about studying and self-discipline. Addiction to social media can make us lose concentration, reduce real-life communication capabilities, and affect mental health. Several cases are affected by fake news, harmful content, or fall into the traps of bad actors online. Moreover, social media increases the state of virtual living, causing many people to chase unrealistic models, comparing themselves with others, resulting in psychological pressure. Many cases of social media abuse are used to bully others, spread false rumors seriously affecting the victim's reputation and life. So how should we use social media effectively? First, we need to control usage time, not allowing social media to affect studying and work. We need to be alert when receiving information, stay away from negative content, and avoid spreading unverified information. Let's use social media civilly, responsibly, and know how to protect ourselves from potential dangers. Social media is a useful tool if used correctly but can also become a double-edged sword if abused. Let's be intelligent social media users, turning it into a supporting tool for life rather than letting it dominate us. Thank you, teachers and fellow students, for listening! |
Sample 4 Topic: Domestic Violence – A Problem to Condemn Dear teachers and fellow students! The family is a place of love, a haven everyone desires to return to. Yet sadly, many families exist in violence, turning the home into a place of pain and suffering. Domestic violence affects not only the body but also leaves deep psychological wounds, particularly on women and children. Domestic violence can be acts of physical and mental abuse, verbal insults, coercion both physically and mentally. The causes of this issue may stem from patriarchal thinking, economic pressure, or habits of alcohol abuse and loss of behavior control. Children growing up in violent environments are at high risk of psychological harm, losing faith in life, and even developing negative behaviors in the future. To end domestic violence, we need the cooperation of the entire society. First, everyone needs to raise awareness, not staying silent or condoning violent behaviors. Victims of domestic violence need to be protected and promptly supported. Relevant agencies also need to have strict measures to curb this problem. Especially, education on gender equality and family training results needs to be enhanced to truly build a happy home. A happy family is the foundation of a civilized society. Let's join hands to condemn domestic violence and create a loving, respectful living environment. Thank you, teachers and fellow students, for listening! |
Sample 5 Topic: Traffic Awareness – An Indispensable Culture Dear teachers and fellow students! Currently, traffic accidents are a pressing issue in our country. Every year, thousands of accidents occur, claiming countless lives and leaving irreparable losses for families and society. One of the main reasons for this situation is the poor traffic awareness of a segment of the population. We can easily witness violations such as running red lights, wrong lane driving, not wearing helmets, or speeding, reckless overtaking. Notably, the situation of drinking alcohol while driving is becoming more common, causing serious consequences. Poor awareness not only endangers oneself but also affects others around them. So how can we improve traffic awareness? First, each individual needs to voluntarily comply with traffic laws, from small actions like wearing helmets correctly, stopping at red lights, to driving in the correct lanes. Schools and families also need to instill traffic awareness from a young age to foster good habits. Besides, authorities need to strengthen inspections and strictly handle violations to increase deterrence. Participating in traffic is not only a responsibility but also reflects each person's culture. If we all enhance awareness and obey traffic laws, we will surely help reduce accidents and build a safer society. Thank you, teachers and fellow students, for listening! |
