Are the Departments of Education and Training in Vietnam required to prepare solutions to comply with the 2024 - 2025 academic year plans after the Tet holiday?
According to Official Dispatch 8258/BGDDT-GDCTHSSV 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training requires Departments of Education and Training and training institutions; universities, academies, and colleges of education to emphasize the following contents:
1. Regarding assurance of security, order, crime prevention, fire prevention and fighting
a) Strengthen the dissemination and education of students to adopt a civilized lifestyle, maintain social order, enhance skills in accident prevention, avoid social evils, ensure security and order, and school safety. Raise awareness and personal responsibility to prevent crime tactics, especially those operating in cyberspace, black credit crimes, fraud, social evils, gambling, football betting, business fraud, public disorder, and resisting law enforcement during the Tet holidays.
b) Ensure on-duty shifts and protect the premises, maintaining absolute safety of infrastructure, fire and explosion prevention during the Tet holiday; Promote public awareness and education for students, strictly prohibit involvement in the production, purchase, transportation, storage, or illegal use of weapons, explosives, support tools, and fireworks. Adhere strictly to regulations and conditions for fire and explosion prevention; prepare solutions to comply with the 2024 - 2025 academic year plans after the Tet holiday.

The Ministry of Education and Training has instructed the Departments of Education and Training, training institutions; universities, academies, and colleges of education to prepare solutions to comply with the 2024 - 2025 academic year plans after the Tet holiday.
When is the 2024 - 2025 academic year in Vietnam expected to end?
Under Article 1 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024:
Issuance of the framework for the 2024-2025 academic year plan for preschool, general education, and continuing education nationwide:
1. The earliest school opening date is set 1 week before the official commencement ceremony. For first graders, the earliest start date is 2 weeks prior to the commencement ceremony.
2. The commencement ceremony is organized on September 05, 2024.
3. The first semester ends before January 18, 2025, and the school year is completed before May 31, 2025.
4. The recognition of completion of primary education and graduation from lower secondary education is conducted before June 30, 2025.
5. Enrollment for the first classes of all educational levels is completed before July 31, 2025.
6. The national high school exam 2025 is scheduled to take place on June 26 and June 27, 2025.
7. Other national-level exams are organized as per the Ministry of Education and Training’s guidelines and regulations.
Thus, the 2024 - 2025 academic year is expected to end before May 31, 2025.
How many weeks of actual study are required in the 2024 - 2025 academic year?
Article 2 of Decision 2045/QD-BGDDT 2024 stipulates:
Principles of formulating the academic year plan for localities
- The academic year plan for localities must ensure 35 weeks of actual study (18 weeks in the first semester, 17 weeks in the second semester).
- The academic year plan must suit the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.
- Public holiday and Tet breaks are implemented according to the Labor Code and annual guidance documents.
- Teacher's annual leave is taken during the summer break or can be arranged at other times during the year to suit specific characteristics and the local academic year plan.
- The academic year plan needs to ensure synchronization for educational levels in a residential area, especially in schools with multiple educational levels.
The 2024 - 2025 academic year must ensure 35 weeks of actual study, with the first semester having 18 weeks, and the second semester having 17 weeks.
