What is the age of citizenship in Vietnam today?

According to Article 19 of the Law on Citizen's Identity 2014, regulations on the person issued with a citizen's identity card in Vietnam and the number of a citizen's identity card are as follows:

"Article 19. Persons who are issued with a citizen's identity card and citizen's identity card number
1. Vietnamese citizens aged full 14 years old are granted citizen's identity cards.
2. The citizen's identity card number is the personal identification number. "

How long is the validity of a citizen's ID card used in Vietnam?

With regard to regulations on the use value of citizen's identity cards in Vietnam, Article 20 of the 2014 Law on Citizen's Identity is prescribed as follows:

"Article 20. Use value of citizen's identity card
1. Citizen's identity card is a Vietnamese citizen's ID card which is valid to prove the citizen's identity of the card holder to perform transactions in the Vietnamese territory.
2. Citizen's identity card is used instead of passport use in case Vietnam and foreign sign an international treaty or agreement allowing a citizen of the contracting country to use a citizen's identity card instead for use of passports in each other's territories.
3. Competent agencies, organizations and individuals may request citizens to present their citizen's identity cards to check identification and information specified in Article 18 of this Law; To use personal identification numbers on the citizen's identity card to check information of the card holder in the national population database and specialized database according to the provisions of law.
When a citizen presents a citizen's identity card at the request of a competent agency, organization or individual, such competent agency, organization or individual may not request that citizen present additional documents. certify the information specified in Clauses 1 and 3 of this Article.
4. The State protects the legitimate rights and interests of citizens who are issued with citizen identification cards according to the provisions of law. "

What is the content shown on the citizen's identity card?

Regarding the contents shown on the citizen's identity card, Article 18 of the 2014 Law on Citizen's Identity stipulates as follows:

"Article 18. Contents shown on citizen's identity card
1. A citizen's identity card contains the following information:
a) The front of the card has a picture of the National Emblem of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; the inscription Republic of Vietnam, Independence - Freedom - Happiness; the words "Citizen identity"; photo, citizen's ID card number, last name, middle name and birth name, date of birth, gender, nationality, country of origin, place of permanent residence; expiration date, month, year;
b) The back of the card has an encrypted information storage device; fingerprints, identity features of the card holder; date, month and year of issue of the card; full name, middle name, title, signature of card issuer and seal with national emblem of the card issuer.
2. The Minister of Public Security shall specify the specifications, other languages, shapes, sizes and materials of citizen identification cards. "

The Draft Dossier proposing the formulation of the Law on Citizen's Identity (amended) is proposed to amend and supplement a number of specific articles as follows:

- Supplement regulations on granting citizenship cards to citizens who are children under 14 years old. In the case of a newborn child, the issuance of a citizen's identity card shall be done concurrently in the continuous procedures for birth registration.

- Additional regulations on solving problems in the issuance of citizen's identity cards to people who do not have permanent residence, do not have enough other personal information, have information about ethnicity, other religions not included in the list of regulations of the specialized state management agency.

- Additional provisions on granting identity certificates to stateless people who have lived stably and permanently in Vietnam (Vietnamese people were born in Vietnam or people of Vietnamese descent were born in the country. outside but have returned to Vietnam to live continuously for 05 years or more)

Accordingly, for the current regulations, the cases of pharmaceutical citizenship cards are Vietnamese citizens from full 14 years of age or older. And under this new proposal, not only people aged full 14 years or older will be issued a Citizen ID card, but people under 14 years old and newborn children will also be issued with a card.
